The Opportunity:

As an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Safety Officer Communications Dispatcher your primary task is to provide a safe and secure campus for the students (residential and non-residential), faculty, staff, contractors, and guests. You are also tasked with protecting Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's assets, facilities, property, business interests, and reputation.

These goals will be accomplished by taking a service-oriented, community-building educational approach. Our objectives include deterrence, detection, timely response, effective action, and accurate reporting. All members of the Prescott Campus Safety and Security Department are expected to project a professional appearance and demeanor in all their interactions with the campus community and the public.

Team support duties including but not limited to: Operate the Campus Safety and Security Dispatch Center, responding to requests for service.

Operate two-way radios, monitoring/transmitting on all frequencies. Coordinate responses to emergencies. Coordinate response with other agencies/departments.

Coordinate responses of field personnel to all types of calls for service.

Assist patrol supervisors with monitoring of field unit activities. Prioritize dispatching and response to calls for service.

Assign proper personnel to calls for service. Resolve problems (both dispatch/logistic and campus community.) by drawing on knowledge and experience, common sense and creativity.

Monitor, retrieve and update data in various computer systems: Computer Aided Dispatch System (CADS) ARMS (Automated Record Management System) ONYX Works.

Monitor and operate alarm systems: Receive and respond to alarm activations.

Determine and dispatch appropriate emergency units. Provide information to responding personnel regarding various alarm types. a. Emergency b.

Fire c. Intrusion d. Robbery (Hold Up) Notify responsible person(s) of alarm activations in their areas.

Initiate calls for after-hours maintenance of alarm systems. Monitor video surveillance system of critical areas.

Expertise on the following systems and processes: T2, Prowatch, MaxPro, RAVE, Onnity, Key control, Landline, Smartphones, SchedulER, Access lists.

Other Duties: Complete Daily Activity Log (a public Document), Answer all department telephones after hours; provide campus information.

Personal response to campus community Eagle Card Service front counter after hours. Make follow-up calls for field personnel. Initiate necessary notifications.

Other related assigned duties by supervisor. May be required to work overtime / shift work. Attend training sessions Reviewing logs, Memos, Policy and Procedures manual, Actively participate in departmental staff meetings.

Shift: 3rd Shift, 10pm - 6am

Schedule: Friday through Sunday

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.

  • Minimum of one to three years work related experience.

Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

  • Valid Arizona Driver license, "D" license from Arizona Department of Transportation

  • Must meet the University's standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):

  • Three (3) or more at-fault accidents and/or moving violations in the previous 36 months.

  • Two (2) or more at-fault accidents or two (2) or more moving violations in the past year.

  • Conviction for driving while impaired (DWl, DUl within the last five (5) years).

  • Conviction for death by vehicle, hit and run, racing, careless and reckless driving, implied consent in the previous five (5) years.

  • Serious violations result in immediate disqualification and revocation of driver privileges. The following are examples of serious violations:

  • Speeding over 15 mph of the posted limit, driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless or careless driving, Use of vehicle in (drug trafficking, reckless homicide, soliciting), unlawful use of weapons, driving under suspension or revocation, fleeing a police officer, vehicle theft, Improper or illegal lane change, following too close, and passing a stopped school bus while stop sign is engaged.

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Analytical skills, Working knowledge or ability to learn to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications.

  • Ability to assess situations and handle problems in an orderly and professional manner. Be in good health with normal vision, hearing and dexterity, with the ability to withstand sudden energy demands. Possess a positive attitude and have good oral and written communication skills.
