Supporting the division of Health, Well-being & Safety (HWS), the Communications Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive program of marketing initiatives and communications support (i.e., lead/guide communication efforts across the HWS division, writing strategic communications pieces, executive communication, internal communication, Op-Eds, presentations, speeches, strategic website design, social media, external presentations and remarks, etc.). The incumbent will work with management to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategies & designs, Additionally, there should be projects related to implementing information campaigns, and writing/editing a variety of comprehensive and difficult material for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, rational development of content, and emphasis. Recommends content and layout for creating visually appealing materials, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of multimedia, or conversion of printed pieces to online formats and archives.

Involves conceiving, researching, writing, editing, and / or publishing written materials and strategic communications, including publications (e.g. annual reviews), impact reports, narrative creations and sharing, articles, proposals, presentations, speeches, website copy, and promotional material. Also, provides leadership and support to high-profile events within the division. The full salary range for this position is $71,100 - $128,700 annually.

We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Create and leads the functions of the Division's marketing and communications/public relations work, and serves as a thought partner to HWS leaders on key marketing and communications issues, including: developing all phases of the Division's marketing and communications life cycle, leading strategic campaign development and media planning, creating communications and marketing strategies, overseeing internal communications, and handling issues management and crisis communications. This position collaborates effectively with cross-functional leaders and is available to help manage emerging issues.Manages comprehensive communications programs, including written, visual, digital, and electronic communications.Ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints.Provide guidance, structure, and strategic planning to the HWS (and affiliated department) websites. Involves creating visual and web communications that inform, instruct and/or influence the way students/staff/faculty perceive HWS services, programs, and resources, visual communications, graphic design, animation, communications strategy, marketing, research, environmental design, photography and photographic services, and/or illustration.Works with management and clients to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communications plans and/or projects.Advises and consults with departmental/college administration regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation, and problem resolution.Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and/or broad general audiences.Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.

Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans. Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and/or broad general audiences.
