Communications Director

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Location: Lynchburg, VA

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Director reports directly to the CEO. The Communications Director is responsible for establishing and driving a communications strategy that aligns with the objectives and brand guidelines of Horizon Behavioral Health. The Director prepares and manages all communications material not related to HR functions, such as newsletters, brochures, annual reports, press releases, website, and social media content. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining media relations and contacts with media members and community leaders. The Communications Director is the face of Horizon at media events. This is a hands-on position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, English, or a related field.

• Three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or marketing role, preferably in a similar work environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

RELATED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Proven work experience as a communications director or similar role.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in speaking and writing grammatically correct English.

• Excellent presentation skills.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

• Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies.

• Understanding of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing.

• Excellent copywriting and copy-editing abilities.

• Familiarity and working knowledge of social media platforms and social media marketing.

• Working knowledge of content management systems and digital graphics production, HTML. Coding experience a plus.

• Must be comfortable working on and delivering messaging through a variety of platforms.

• Must possess the technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms and create web and mobile content.

• Creativity to produce exciting and interesting content.

• Analytical skills to solve problems and find the most effective ways to convey information.

• Ability to gather and analyze facts on a variety of subject matter and to assemble and communicate ideas effectively and clearly through marketing materials, oral presentations, and concise reports.

• Ability to skillfully operate modern photography equipment.

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects while working on a deadline in a fast-paced environment.

• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or other similar applications.

• Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel to different locations as needed.
