How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Communications Director will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer and Head of Talent and Learning and is an experienced communications professional who provides strategic public relations and communications support across Brighthouse Financial.

Key responsibilities include creating and executing public relations and internal communications strategies that influence a wide range of audiences. The Communications Director is responsible for public relations, including supporting the financial reporting requirements of the company, as well as internal communications that support the strategic objectives and culture of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop press releases, key messages and other external-facing communications tools

  • Act as a spokesperson for the company and conduct proactive and reactive media relations to ensure that Brighthouse Financial is accurately represented in the media

  • Develop key messages and prepare spokespeople for all press interviews

  • Support the crisis and issues management processes at the company

  • Serve as a partner to the Brand and Marketing teams to support product launches and campaigns

  • Partner with the social media team to ensure consistency of communications across all channels

  • Support executives at external speaking engagements, which includes message development and presentation/media training, where appropriate

  • Internal communications support as needed

Essential Business Experience and

Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field

  • 8 -10 years of experience in corporate communications (both external and internal), with experience at a publicly-traded company

  • Track record of success in developing and executing public relations and internal communications strategies

  • Ability to explain complex concepts and make them relevant to multiple audiences.

  • Experience working with senior business leaders.

  • Ability to work as a team player who willingly shares knowledge and information with others, and partners with team members outside the communications function to achieve shared goals.

  • Sound judgment as a communications professional.

  • High proficiency in written and verbal communication.

Job Description Position Summary The Director of Communications will build on the existing Corporate Communications programs to support the company's Corporate Strategy and will collaborate with the Albemarle Leadership Team (ALT). The Director will be responsible for internal and external communications; crisis/issues management; community communications; sustainability reporting; social/digital communications; corporate branding; and media relations. Albemarle is a fast-paced culture and as a result, this leader must be nimble, flexible, and able to respond to change in a calm and constructive manner. Of particular importance is the ability to develop relationships and communicate across a highly matrixed and global organization. H/she will lead a global team of corporate communications professionals and maintain key relationships with members of Albemarle's Leadership Team (ALT), including Functional Leaders and Corporate Strategy and Investor Relations. Externally, h/she will maintain relationships with global media, digital influencers and opinion leaders related to the company's businesses as well as external consultants. Key Responsibilities * Bring to life the Corporate Strategy by developing and implementing internal and external communications strategies for Albemarle on a global basis. * Develop and implement programs to support business objectives and enhance the company's global internal cultural engagement for all levels of the organization. * Manage executive communications and thought leadership opportunities. Prepare senior leaders for media engagements and represent them during interviews, as needed. Oversee the development of speeches, presentations, briefings and talking points, as necessary. * Serve as strategic advisor to Executives and other senior leaders regarding communications strategies, messaging and issues management, displaying strong functional expertise and business acumen as well as an understanding of the most critical business drivers. * Drive effective communications by working with GBU leaders and the Communications Business Partners for the Lithium, Bromine, Catalysts and Fine Chemistry Services global business units (GBUs) to understand the key strategies, programs and business plans to ensure strong & consistent messaging development, alignment and delivery. * Provide strong leadership to a global team of communications and events management professionals, ensuring that they remain engaged and motivated while reaching target objectives. * Partner closely with Government and Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Strategy and Investor Relations to support all external facing activities (e.g., key events, advocacy and regulatory support; etc.). * Collaborate closely with HR to develop key communications related to employee engagement. * Proactively identify positive, relevant and unique stories to build and support Albemarle's corporate strategy. * Serve as primary storyteller to the media and other key influencers. * Stay abreast of communications activities of industry peers. * Advise and/or manage stakeholder engagement (across businesses, functions and regions) to ensure seamless change while building employee engagement. * Write and edit a variety of communications materials, including press releases, videos, briefs, letters, opinion editorials, and executive speeches. Manage and prioritize communications resources, both internally and externally. * Manage self and team aligned with Albemarle values. * Develop talent by enhancing team members' professional, leadership and communication skills through constructive coaching and talent development planning. Qualifications * Minimum of 15 years of experience as a corporate communications professional operating in a global, in-house team. * Proven record of accomplishment as a collaborative leader. * Media relations experience, including serving as a primary spokesperson to the media. * Exceptional writing, editing and presentation skills. * Chemical, Mining, Natural Extraction and/or Oil & Gas industry experience preferred, but not required. * Sustained experience developing and executing successful communications programs at the corporate level or for major global business organizations. * Strong organizational and project management skills with a focus on planning, setting priorities and delivering results under tight time constraints. * Demonstrated ability to align communications plans with business objectives. * Strong aptitude to navigate complex organizations to build and mentor a team. * Proven experience developing a consultative, advisory relationship of trust and confidence with the CEO, key Executives and high-performing leadership teams. * Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications or journalism, required; Advanced degree preferred; second language a plus.
