Purpose

The Communications Coordinator for UT for Me

  • Powered by Dell Scholars is responsible for leading the strategic and tactical communications needs of the program. This is a versatile role that requires excellent writing, digital communications, project management and strategic thinking abilities. This role oversees the planning, coordination, and creation of campaigns to help UT for Me students take crucial steps to maintain their awards, raise awareness of the resources available to UT for Me students, increase student engagement with UT for Me channels and programming, and highlight program milestones and successes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary communications liaison between UT for Me and stakeholders from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation to define and drive the program's overall marketing and communications strategy, managing relationships and communications needs and developing and executing communications plans and campaigns.

  • Coordinate with academic, financial aid and mental health experts to develop and publish content for Canvas announcements, emails, graphics, news articles, social media, text messages, video scripts and the program's website. Ensure that communications work conforms to university and program brand guidelines, editorial style, organization and appropriateness.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in University Marketing and Communications to produce digital and print assets, send HTML emails, maintain the program's website, order promotional items, etc.

  • Support approximately 2-3 signature events per academic year by hiring University-approved photographers and videographers and overseeing the creation of event-specific assets and promotional items, like PowerPoint presentations and wayfinding signage.

  • Work with the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost to reply to media inquiries.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Seven years of professional experience in communications, social media, web publishing or writing/editing.

  • Demonstrated ability to create content and communicate clearly using different channels and for different audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain timely schedules for content development.

  • Advanced capability with basic office software and social media applications.

  • Knowledge of best practices for social media and websites.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive communications with discretion.

  • Ability to make complex subject matter accessible and compelling to a range of audiences with varying levels of education and knowledge about topics.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than three years of professional experience in communications or a related field.

  • Professional experience in higher education, specifically The University of Texas at Austin.

Salary Range

$62,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • May work weekends and evenings as necessary.

  • This position is based in Austin, TX, and is required to work on campus; however, the position is eligible for flexible scheduling and may be eligible for occasional remote work.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
