The Auraria Library is searching for an imaginative and experienced professional to serve as our dedicated Communications Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and expand the library's communications strategies and initiatives. The Communications Coordinator will produce effective and engaging content about the library's resources, services, and collections and is expected to work with all library departments to assist them in developing a marketing and communication plan that includes messaging, materials, and other related activities. The Communications Coordinator will evaluate needs to develop and implement a range of communication projects that serve to inform and engage the campus. The individual will manage communications operations, maintain a marketing budget, create and administer media policies, field filming and exhibit requests, and coordinate media-related activities. The Communications Coordinator will lead projects including producing annual reports and designing collateral for library outreach efforts across multiple platforms. The position will liaise with the media relations offices on campus and explore relevant partnerships and media collaborations to advance campus relations.

Located in downtown Denver, Colorado, the Auraria Campus is home to three institutions of higher education University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver the latter two of which are Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The Auraria Library serves the campus's over 45,000 students, including many first-generation, underrepresented, and non-traditional students, and sees more than 750,000 visits a year.

Job Duties

General

  • Trains staff on communications and marketing policies and best practices.

  • Establishes and chairs the library's communications and marketing committee that will work across the organization to ensure consistent policies and processes.

  • In collaboration with the library director, develops a clear set of project management procedures and workflows for the creation of materials and coordination of activities to support departmental marketing and communication efforts across the organization.

Communications

  • Develops and implements internal and external communications plans for the library.

  • Tracks library activities, innovations, and user experiences and writes news stories for the libraries' website and other promotional outlets.

  • Manages a communications calendar and sets realistic production schedules to ensure high quality production of library promotional and informational materials.

  • Coordinates social media outlets to increase the library's exposure and engagement with users.

  • Manages the library's digital signage content.

  • Evaluates qualitative and quantitative data regarding current communication outlets and strategies.

  • Manages expectations and responds to media inquiries from internal and external constituents. Creates and updates library policies on communications and marketing.

Marketing

  • Develops a comprehensive marketing plan for the library that is tied to the library's strategic goals and outlines how the library disseminates messaging across various stakeholder groups as well as measures their effectiveness.

  • Creates and distributes promotional materials about the library.

Budget Oversight

  • Oversees the marketing budget.

Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position has been established at $60,000 to $70,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, business administration, or a related field.

  • One (1) year of professional level experience in public and/or media relations

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Experience developing, implementing, and assessing communication and marketing strategies.

  • Experience in library or higher education environments.

  • Experience with graphic design, layout, and production along with use of software such as Adobe Create Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and email/event marketing tools.

  • Proficiency with the Spanish language (ready, write, and speak)
