Job description

Role Purpose and Accountabilities

The role is part of the Reuters PR and Communications team that manages communications, PR and corporate branding for the business.

Reporting to the VP Communications, but with local direction from senior members of the Communications team, the role supports the team with project management, logistics, administration, and ad hoc assignments as needed to ensure the smooth functioning of the team within a highly international business.

The successful candidate will support the team on delivering a diverse number of elements, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Assist with the execution of external and internal communication plans;

  • Provide support to the team with some or all of the following activities: communicating the corporate image through research, writing, and editing press releases, internal communications, online communications, presentations, marketing materials, bios and other related documents;

  • Create and maintain media lists, track media coverage, compile media coverage reports;

  • Help plan and coordinate the logistics of PR, media and employee engagement events;

  • Support and assist with Americas Editorial Booking, including pitching and securing placement for Reuters journalists on consumer, business and financial television and radio programs, primarily in the United States, but also in Canada and Latin America;

  • Help with other media pitching;

  • Track and maintain Communications calendar;

  • Help with the design of ad hoc communications materials invitations, summaries etc

  • Assist in compiling award submissions;

  • Help with the delivery and posting of communications through a variety of internal channels/websites, including e-mail distributions, articles, Webcasts, etc.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will be required to have:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience working in a comparable function;

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with emphasis on client service skills;

  • Skilled at planning, time management, communicating, and organization;

  • A strong interest in the news and financial services businesses;

  • Ability to work in a highly-matrixed, global environment and receive direction from, build consensus with, and trouble shoot with multiple sources;

  • Ability to work well under pressure in real-time;

  • Exceptionally strong writing/editing skills with an emphasis on high attention to detail;

  • Demonstrable drive and pragmatism to get things done;

  • Up-to-date social media skills, including some knowledge of Hootsuite and Twitter Analytics

  • Basic design skills desirable including knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat)

  • Self-starter and results oriented with a strong sense of urgency;

  • Internship or previous work experience in a news or media environment a plus.

  • Basic knowledge of content management systems / intranet platforms (Jive) and email technology (Poppulo, Mailchimp, Eloqua) helpful but not required
