The Communications Coordinator is responsible for all the Immunization Program's communications material. This includes public-facing communications campaigns to promote vaccines, as well as a comprehensive suite of guidance and technical assistance for the city's health care providers.

The Communications Coordinator takes the Immunization Program's goals and objectives and creates a communications strategy that supports these objectives, conducts research, and digital health communications products.

The Communications Coordinator guides projects from concept to deployment and evaluation writing, editing, designing, and finalizing all the Program's communications material. The Communications Coordinator uses plain language, user-centered design, user research, digital service design, evidence-based information design, and data visualization to create information that is easy for its intended recipients to understand and use.

The Communications Coordinator serves as an internal expert on "what works" to achieve desired behavioral outcomes for both external and internal/professional audiences and collaborates with and contributes to other departmental communications work as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement a strategic communications plan for the Immunization Program, centered around creating easy-to-use information for different target audiences and a clear vision for the services that the Immunization Program provides

  • Write, edit, design, and distribute communications for healthcare providers.

  • Create public-facing health communications campaigns, synthesizing research and Program goals into a clear communications plan and writing, designing, finalizing, distributing, and evaluating all health communications products.

  • Maintain all program documents, forms, and materials, and continue a strategy of converting PDFs to web forms and web content

  • Maintain the Immunization Program's website Vax.Phila.gov, which is a WordPress platform.

  • Collaborate across PDPH programs and with the Office of Open Data and Digital Transformation to write Immunization Program as digital services for phila.gov

  • Maintain contact list for all Immunization Program partners and healthcare providers, with email and fax numbers.

  • Organize internal communications.

  • Collaborate with other coordinators and their staff to ensure they have the communications support needed for their program/project.

  • Work with the Immunization team and complete other duties as assigned.

  • Support Division wide initiatives and emergency preparedness activities, as might be required

Skills:

  • Must have experience with health communications, including knowledge of health communications research, theories, and experience developing health communications products

  • Must be an excellent and efficient writer with experience writing health, medical, and technical information in plain language

  • Must know how to interpret medical and technical information as well as research medical topics and present such information clearly and effectively for a variety of audiences.

  • Proficiency or willingness to learn web content management using WordPress

  • Must have a working knowledge of vaccines and immunizations.

Experience:

  • Must have a Master's in Public Health (or a related field) and 2 years of experience OR

  • A Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in communications, journalism, design, or a related field

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Must be authorized to work legally in the US.

Education Requirement:

  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 5 years in communications, journalism, graphic design (or a related field) or 2 years of experience with a Master's degree.

  • Must be able to synthesize research

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud (InDesign), WordPress content management system, and other communications tools.

  • The position requires attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to organize and present information effectively, at times under tight deadlines.

  • Candidate should also have excellent English language skills, including composition, spelling, punctuation, grammar and usage.

  • Individuals should be able to work independently or within a team environment.

  • Must be able to interact successfully with all levels of healthcare professionals and with a diverse public on a variety of disciplines.
