With an overarching mission to eliminate ageism and ensure the dignity and quality of life of approximately 1.8 million older New Yorkers, the New York City Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) is deeply committed to helping older adults age in their homes and create a community-care approach that reflects a model age-inclusive city.
As a member of the Press and Public Information unit, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Community Coordinator will perform responsible work related to Agency community outreach, media relations, and correspondence to amplify its mission and community-based programs, activities, partners, and stakeholders.
The responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
