Communications Assistant

We are seeking a Communications Assistant who will play a crucial role in supporting the Communications Specialist to enhance the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) visibility and engagement across various platforms, with a particular focus on social media and digital platforms. This position requires a creative and dynamic individual interested in producing visually engaging materials and compelling written content to promote events, support our communications strategy, and contribute to our newsletter.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Content Creation and Management: Assist in creating and posting consistently, a variety of content on multiple platforms, targeting professional audiences and a well-established network of supporters and partners.

  • Visual Design: Develop visually engaging materials to support the promotion of events, CAAT-sponsored activities, and hosted conferences. This includes designing graphics, brochures, and digital assets that align with our brand guidelines.

  • Communications Planning: Support the implementation of a comprehensive communications plan that emphasizes visually distinct deliverables and action-inspiring written materials. Work collaboratively with the team to ensure strategies are effectively executed.

  • Video Editing: Perform video editing tasks as required to create compelling video content for various platforms, ensuring all videos meet the organization's quality standards and brand guidelines.

  • Newsletter Production: Contribute to the distribution of center's newsletter by gathering necessary digital assets, converting announcements into newsletter features, and maintaining the Center's established style guide.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the whole team and other departments to ensure a cohesive and consistent message across all channels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

  • Two years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Role/Level/Range: ATO 40/E/02/OD

Starting Salary Range: $16.00 - $28.50 HRLY ($45,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Casual / On Call

Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am - 5 pm

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
