JOB SUMMARY The Communications Analyst is responsible for the implementation and development of technologies to support telecommunication and edge network systems and devices. Duties include; recommending and implementation of improvements, log analysis, and development of processes and polices for assigned systems. Working afterhours and weekends may be required during maintenance or when outages occur. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience: Technical school graduate in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and two (2) years experience including in-depth knowledge of installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment; inside and outside cable plant (copper, fiber, and coax) design and installation; network and server infrastructures and VoIP; OR # Four (4) years directly applicable experience supporting telecommunications networks. Experience working with local, long distance, and specialized carriers. Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline. Experience: Experience in project management, computer science, 802.11 and IP/DECT wireless systems. Licensure/Certification/Registration: MN Power Limited Technician KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Avaya Communications Systems, Intuity voice mail systems, Motorola Paging. Have the ability to work effectively with all levels of people and management. Have the ability to read equipment schematics as well as building and underground prints; familiarity with appropriate communications and electric codes. Good written and oral communications and interpersonal skills required. Familiarity with fiber optic technologies; data communications transport and associated hardware/software; switched public and private network facilities; voice mail; operation and interpretation of telecommunications and electronic testing equipment. READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures. SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
