TITLE: Instructor of Communication
DEPARTMENT: School of Humanities
REPORTS TO: Chair of School of Arts, Communications and Humanities

STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month Full-time, Term Faculty

JOB SUMMARY:
This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track position. KSU faculty are teacher-scholars with a focus on undergraduate teaching and a commitment to the liberal arts.
Teaching faculty are responsible for providing the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and enrich the educational environment of the university and surrounding community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach communications or mass communication courses in the best manner to facilitate student learning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities include teaching communication courses, especially the KSU general education requirement,
COM 103 Interpersonal Communication. Other teaching assignments could include upper-level courses in the Public Relations tracks of the Mass Communications and Journalism program. The successful candidate will especially be committed to and enthusiastic about contributing to the general education program and supporting first-year students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Mastery of course content and demonstrated leadership ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, technology, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative and distance learning
Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, civic engagement, and the effective use of technology.
Commitment to diversity in teaching and learning
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The work is mostly sedentary. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying papers, books and other small items. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
OTHER DUTIES:
Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Proficiency in the Learning Management System, Canvas, and Online Learning Pedagogy is required, consistent with university guidelines (necessary training provided by the university).
QUALIFICATIONS:
A graduate degree in communications or related field is required. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching; preference will be given to those who present evidence of successful classroom teaching experiences in speech communications or related fields. Internal and external candidates are encouraged to apply.
