Commodity Merchandisers at The Andersons, Inc. are an integral component to the ag supply chain. Our merchandising team consists of driven, entrepreneurial professionals committed to providing excellent service to our customers. Individuals in these roles have the responsibility of originating commodities and marketing the goods to drive positive financial outcomes. Merchandisers also develop knowledge in local, national, and global markets, risk management, and transportation and logistics, and much more.
To guide the learning and development of entry-level commodity merchandisers, The Andersons has built an exceptional Merchandiser in Training (MIT) program. All individuals in the MIT program receive a broad and hands-on experience in all aspects of commodity merchandising, including but not limited to:
Buying and selling of commodities
Daily analysis of local, national, and global markets
Transportation and logistics
Price developments
Supply Chain Management
Relationship Building with Customers

All individuals are required to complete two 6-month rotations within our North America based trading locations. Locations are to be determined upon hire and individuals must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is provided if requirements are met.
Day to Day Responsibilities of the Trainees in the MIT Program include:
Communicate effectively with The Andersons internal and external customers
Gain fundamental understanding of local, national, and global cash grain and grain product marketing, trading, and flows
Aid in evaluating changing crop and market conditions
Assist in managing customer relationships, contracts, logistics, data analytics, and other activities
Execute existing and new contracts and agreements
For the MIT program, we are looking for individuals who meet the following requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics, or related major
One year of relevant work experience or internships
Fluent in English, knowledge of second language is a plus
Willingness to travel and flexibility to relocate
Demonstrate leadership ability and ability to influence others
Self-starter who is highly motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset
Able to work independently and in a team environment
Experience in customer service and able to proactively identify and resolve issues
Comfortable taking appropriate risks
Excellent written and verbal skills and detail-oriented in the areas that require analysis
