Commodity Market Analyst

Position Summary:

The Commodity Market Analyst is a key position within our top tier procurement organization. It focuses on strategy and analysis as it relates to the procurement of chemical raw materials, indirects, and logistics services. This position is part of the Global Analytics Team which supports approximately $4 Billion of commodity spend. The role has organizational visibility and is highly interactive; partnering with other analysts, commodity managers, and procurement leadership. Over time, procurement analysts become specialists in their market area, and play an important role in strategy development, major supplier negotiations and decision making processes. They may also take on sourcing responsibilities as part of the role, enabling them to build valuable commercial skills.

Job Description:

  • Lead and provide insightful market analysis, interpretation of raw materials, indirect commodities or logistics services.

  • Support corporate level analysis including development of presentations for Executives, senior leaders and the Board of Directors.

  • Provide strategic analysis and information for development of short term and long term strategies for regional and global procurement.

  • Track key procurement performance metrics.

  • Prepare for and participate in major supplier negotiations.

  • Globally communicate and report up to and including senior company leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be proficient in statistical analysis and possess advanced analytical, logic and critical thinking skills. Must demonstrate experience or ability to think strategically, and understand commercial situations.

  • Must possess a general knowledge of: Financial concepts such as cash flow, net income, EBITDA, variable and fixed costs. Marketing concepts such as supply/demand and pricing. General understanding of the sourcing process.

  • A basic understanding of contracts and the ability to read legal language is required.

  • Should have strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, international multicultural environment.

  • Must have strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Education requirements:

  • Bachelors degree with equivalent relevant experience OR Masters degree in business, logistics, finance, chemistry or chemical engineering required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with quality and ERP tools (Specifically SAP and SAP Business Warehouse) preferred.

  • International business experience and knowledge of supply chain management a plus.

Job Description: * Regional role responsible for North America * Responsible for the negotiation and implementation of general labor contracts, equipment, engineering service contracts and other project related services of approximately $50mm in annual spend * Responsible for negotiating an average of $1.5m in savings while supporting business plans * Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies in support of the business plans. Support project portfolio managers and project engineers in planning tollgate/stage gate management and execution of project procurement activities. * Develop and maintain source base/relationships for reliable support of contracted services. Support project managers in project procurement execution. * Track and monitor price and supply trends on key commodities. Develop procurement plans in areas such as general labor, engineering services and others as required. * The CM is responsible for interfacing with key stakeholders in all regions. Project responsibilities will be focused on NA in the beginning, but geographic coverage can be expanded, based upon the needs of the Capex portfolio. * The focus of the role will be to reduce the overall cost of capital expenditure related projects and to minimize the risk associated with such projects through the negotiation and implementation of contracts needed to support the standardization of goods and services needed for the projects. Qualifications: * BS/BA Degree or equivalent * Minimum 1 – 5 years of experience in capex, project management, procurement, or manufacturing operations * Working knowledge of the construction industry and manufacturing processes * Complex negotiation skills * Basic understanding of technical equipment * Strong analytical skills * Good interpersonal skills able to separate wants vs. needs * Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously * Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (up, down, laterally) * Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills * Strong project leadership driving procurement strategies through implementation into plants * Self-starter / ability to work with limited supervision Preferred Qualifications: * 5+ years experience in capex spending * MBA is a plus * PMI - Project Management Professional * Understanding of Manufacturing Systems, inclusive of quality control, quality assurance and safety programs is helpful Additional Details: Key Metrics Role is Accountable For: * Productivity, Cost reduction, Weighted Average Terms improvements Key Relationships: * Plant manager, Director of Capital Projects, Plant building managers Travel Requirements Up to 50% travel We are an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer.
