POSITION SUMMARY: The Commodity Buyer is responsible for managing a global supply chain for assigned commodities. This position will help develop and execute a strategic commodity plan to ensure optimal quality, delivery, cost, and payment terms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Drives supplier accountability and performance by negotiating agreements; Price, Inventory Liability, Quality
Effective idea generation, planning, and project execution to drive category specific commodity strategies
Supports planners during supply chain disruptions through tactical expedites as needed
Work closely with quality to reduce internal and external DPPM/Non-Conforming Product. Partner on resolution of Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR's)
Implement the materials portion of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions for all purchased parts within assigned commodities
Drive cost reduction through purchasing tools; reverse auction, RFP/RFQ, should cost modeling, negotiation, YOY contracting, payment terms, make vs. buy, project management
Work with VAVE engineers or other internal departments to develop and support total cost reduction projects
Provide support of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives including Kaizen events
Work with suppliers and appropriate internal resources on supplier agreements
May be involved in Supplier development activities
Other duties, reporting, special assignments or projects as needed and assigned
Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, engineering one year relevant experience or Associate degree plus three years of relevant experience.
Strong MS Office suite experience with focus on Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
5 years of experience in procurement, commodity buying or Buyer/Planner role.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence peers, supervisors, other operations leaders, and suppliers
Strategic thinker as this position is one of the key contributors to the business' long-term supply
Project management skills with ability to trouble shoot and solve problems independently
Supplier development experience
Working knowledge of principles of Kanban / planning / pull system
