Position Overview

Our Commissioning Technician will work in an experienced team and exciting environment on next generation diesel locomotives or coaches. Our vehicles are connecting cities all over the United States and we are working together with the customer on site to achieve the main goals for the warranty period. You will be mainly responsible for commissioning and troubleshooting, repairing and improving our vehicles to achieve a high customer satisfaction and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioning and troubleshooting locomotives or coaches

  • Perform, with the use of mechanical drawings, schematics and location circuit plans, electrical and mechanical repairs of various components

  • Use laptops with subsystem software to troubleshoot various systems onboard the locomotives.

  • Diagnose electrical malfunctions in locomotive control circuits and components, assess the nature of problems, and identify corrective action needed.

  • Read, interpret and understand written or electronic information, maintain the information, and compile reports

  • Work with shop machines and hand tools.

  • Communicate in a team, to the site lead and colleagues, verbally and in writing, technical information, job procedure recommendations, improvements and other work-related information.

  • Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • High school diploma (or GED)

  • Minimum 5 years experiences in relevant field

  • Must be proficient in reading and working with electrical, pneumatic, mechanical circuit diagrams to troubleshooting failures in the affected system

  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in team

  • Individual must possess a valid Driver's license in good standing.

  • Technical Diploma

  • Field Service or Operations experience preferably in the railroad industry

VIEW JOBS 4/18/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-17T00:00 This position reports to the Regional Manager, Field Services and this individual functions as the responsible electrical commissioning engineer on assigned projects and provides overall project planning, coordination and supervision of construction, commissioning and testing activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. * Act as resident engineer on projects of any magnitude. * Interpret complex plans and specifications and apply available information to ensure that all project design requirements are satisfied. * Takes a lead role in resolving construction problems, procedures, and methods through working with the customer and TRC engineering personnel, inspectors, contractors, and suppliers. * Plan, perform and document the commissioning of various control and power circuits to ensure the intended operation and safety of equipment and personnel are met. * Maintain familiarity with appropriate engineering and construction codes to ensure compliance with applicable codes. * Prepare and/or monitor complex construction and commissioning schedules to ensure timely completion of the work. * Prepare and/or implement outage and energization plans, and detailed commissioning plans. * Institute, direct and document changes to the work when required by differing site conditions. * Conduct on-site design or investigation work to ensure adequacy of contractor's methods. Evaluate contractor's procedures, starting and completion times, and staffing requirements for each phase of construction. * May assist in the professional development, training, and evaluation of department personnel. * Maintain familiarity with work rules applicable to various collective bargaining crafts employed on project. * Valid driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or University is preferred; and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, licenses, registrations -- P.E. preferred.
