Commercial/Residential Plans Reviewer

Description

The Building Inspections Department has a need for a person to work with our inspectors, building contractors, architects, engineers and citizens. This person will examine plans and consult with the individuals in reference to code compliance for construction projects. The plan review process now requires the use of an electronic plan review software that the reviewer will be required to learn and utilize.

Examples of Duties

Reviews submitted construction plans for compliance with all relevant codes, regulations and ordinances.

Recommends and implements changes to the policies and procedures for plan reviews for the effective and efficient operation of the plan review process.

Review construction permit applications to ensure completeness and compliance with submittal requirements.

Prepare correspondence to architects, engineers, developers and contractors about plan reviews for code compliance and design issues.

Interact with the public and design professionals about the permit review and approval process.

Assist Building Inspectors and city staff with interpretations of adopted building codes and amendments.

Typical Qualifications

Requires ICC certification and SC Building Codes Council registration as a Commercial Plans Examiner-one (1) within 12 months of employment, and five (5) or more years of experience as a Building Inspector or related construction experience. Two years of plans reviewing experience preferred.

Must have the ability to interpret building plans and specifications and have a thorough knowledge of the Building Code; strong customer service, computer and telephone skills are necessary. Requires SC driver's license.

This is a full-time position with benefits.

Salary depends on a combination of education and experience. The pay range for this position is:

$57,260 $73,001 $88,741
