The Position

Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspectors perform skilled mechanical inspections on commercial vehicles and review related records to ensure compliance with State and federalmotor carrier laws and regulations and to identify potential safety problems and mechanical deficiencies; conduct mechanical inspections at crashes; and provide technical assistance to the NHP and the motor carrier industry on the regulatory and mechanical aspects of commercial vehicle safety.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Highway Patrol Division (NHP) is recruiting for a Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspector to support the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP). This position will primarily conduct Compliance Reviews; an in-depth review of a motor carrier's compliance with applicable safety and hazardous materials regulations. This position requires the understanding of motor carrier laws and regulations and the ability to properly apply those laws and regulations during Compliance Reviews; the ability to identify required documentation needed during investigations; the writing skills necessary to complete State and Federal reports; effective verbal communication skills for scheduling, conducting, and interviewing company officials during Compliance Reviews; the ability to identify mechanical deficiencies and to determine safety deficiencies based on laws and regulations; the ability to conduct post-crash mechanical inspections of vehicles; and the ability to provide technical assistance to NHP commercial law enforcement and the motor carrier industry with Federal regulations. Please note: This position requires successful completion of the North American Standards Part A & Part B, General Hazmat, and Investigative Safety Analysis courses and must maintain these certifications as a condition of continued employment. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school, vocational school or the equivalent, and four years of journey-level mechanical work experience involving commercial vehicle maintenance, which included engines, brakes, suspensions, coupling devices, wheels and tires, steering and air systems; OR four years of work experience as a driver of any commercial motor vehicle which required a Class A or B Commercial Driver License; OR four years of work experience involving the mechanics, safety inspection, size-weight, registration requirement and load and safety regulations of commercial vehicles; OR one year of experience as a Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspector I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Incumbents must obtain and maintain the following certifications as a condition of continuing employment:

North American Standard (NAS) Level I Roadside Inspector; NAS Roadside Hazardous Material Inspector; NAS Cargo Tank Inspector; NAS Passenger Vehicle Inspector; and NAS Other Bulk Package Inspector. Incumbents work unarmed in a law enforcement setting and may be exposed to a variety of potentially hazardous situations and substances. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.

Completes required inspection documentation via hand held devices promptly and accurately. Must know, practice and ensure that company policies and procedures and state or federal laws are followed at all times. Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to the following: 1. Provide excellent customer service: * Make sure customers receive prompt, efficient and courteous attention. * Maintain a professional appearance, clean and orderly mobile vehicle and friendly disposition when greeted by others while present on dealer's lots. * Be familiar with procedures for handling all aspects of customer questions, complaints or disputes. Including proper escalation process. 2. Inspection/Condition Report: * Arrive at ADESA at scheduled work time and meet the Mobile Van team at a pre-determined location. The team will be transported to dealer's lot locations throughout the day. * Complete inspection/condition reports on designated vehicles and ensure vehicles inspected meet the program standards as defined by account or contract. Inspection/condition reports to include Vehicle make, year, VIN, options, body damage, mechanical operation and a minimum of 13 pictures. * Upload completed condition reports via the hand-held device to allow designated administrative personnel to launch vehicles at determined times. 3. Other: * Practice and promote teamwork at all times. Set a good personal example of attitude and performance. * Respond to and follow proper procedures on employee and customer accidents, injuries, and loss or damage to any property. Report all incidents to the Manager. * Practice and promote company Core Values. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED preferred. * Basic knowledge of automotive components. * Effective customer relations, communication and interpersonal skills required. * Ability to use current technology, basic computer skills. * Must possess a valid driver's license.
