Summary

JOB SUMMARY Responsible for making sure that tires used by automobiles, trucks, trailers and commercial vehicles (tractors) are in a good state for the road and will ensure the safety of the vehicles. Inspects, mounts and dis-mounts, balances and repairs.

Mechanics must ensure that all safety precautions OSHA and Tire Industry Association (TIA) recommendations are followed. Must have 1 year experience with commercial tires and if not certified, must attain commercial tire certification within 6 months.C. JOB SCOPENo supervisory or budgetary responsibilities D.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDismounts and mounts truck tires and all smaller tires following OSHA and or TIA industry standards.Determines repairable tire conditions and makes needed repairs per TIA specifications.Mounts and safely inflates tires to prescribed PSI, per load requirements. (TIA standards)Must understand Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) operation and be able to set up TPMS sensors.Operates tire machines, jacks, and hydraulic equipment.Regularly inspects equipment, tools and service vehicles and completes daily inspection logs.Ensures compliance with safety requirements as outlines by OSHA and the TIA.Must be able to perform physical task requiring lifting 80 lbs.Must work in all weather conditions; rain, sun, etc.Must operate company service trucks changing tires in the Port and out on the side of the highway.Must be able to safely move heavy equipment such as road tractors and jockey trucks.Must work closely with purchasing to ensure tire inventory is correct.Performs all other assigned duties.E. MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: 1 year experience with commercial truck tires and attain TIA certification within 6 months.

LICENSE: Jockey truck certification and/or Class A CDL required. Fork lift certification required for 10,000 and 30,000 lb.TRAVEL: 10% domestic travel.
