Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe's growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. Today, our foundry is developing over 40 different organisms to make different products across multiple industries.

We are looking for a motivated, driven individual to maximize the value of Ginkgo's partnerships by helping to drive strategy for existing programs and execute new opportunities with existing partners. The Commercial Strategy & Operations Manager will work with our Head of Commercial Operations, our Chief Commercial Officer, and Ginkgo's external customers throughout all aspects of the contract execution period, and will assist with the internal and external coordination on all matters pertaining to existing contracts.

This role will be critical to the Ginkgo team by ensuring successful execution of our Ginkgo contracts and supporting the acquisition of new business opportunities in this sector.


  • Understand contracts, needs, and drivers of existing Ginkgo partners, and develop internal strategies to maximize the value of Ginkgo partnerships

  • Be responsible for the P&L for Ginkgo partnerships

  • Manage portfolio and customer dashboards for Ginkgo executives and Board

  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners by facilitating information transfer between partners and proactively resolving business, technical, and contractual issues

  • Create key Platform Delivery processes to maximize efficiency and update as needed

  • Coordinate onsite visits with Ginkgo clients and external parties

  • Conduct market assessment and business cases for new markets

  • Support commercial contracting and business structure negotiations

  • Expand business partnerships

  • Work internally with business, R&D, deployment, legal, and finance team members to ensure understanding and execution of partnership objectives

  • Document key deliverables as well as meeting minutes, quarterly committee meeting agendas, and presentations


  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field (MBA a plus)

  • At least three years of relevant work experience in consulting, biotechnology or related fields, preferably with at least one year of partner-facing experience

  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Exceptional collaboration and relationship-building skills with the ability to develop working relationships at all levels of management, both inside and outside of Ginkgo

  • Prior experience working in cross-functional teams

  • Strong communication (written and oral) and organizational skills

  • Superb attention to detail

Job Description Program Launches o Support the successful launch of new commercial midstream programs, either by serving as the interim Program Manager or providing technical expertise and support to the assigned Program Manager o When serving as interim Program Manager, coordinate resources from cross-functional operations and oversee project budgets to deliver on launch objectives. o Responsible for issue identification/escalation, internal communication of the status of all active commercial midstream program launches, and communication of progress to clients until a dedicated Program Manager is in place o Successfully transition new commercial midstream programs to dedicated Program Manager o Develop and refine repeatable project and program launch plans, technical materials, and program processes for complex multi-million dollar Energy Efficiency programs serving Utility clients Program Improvements o Identify and manage execution of cross-cutting commercial midstream program improvement projects, including defining project objectives, success criteria, scope, resources and deliverable. o Consult on the development of relevant process flows and reporting standards to ensure timely and accurate customer-facing reports o Consult on the development of relevant forecasting tools and methodology for accurate P&L management and market performance measurement o Use detailed knowledge of all CLEAResult midstream programs to prepare and present briefs and presentations on midstream offerings and program design to meet the client's needs both internally and externally. o Review commercial midstream proposals and draft scopes of work to determine feasibility, labor and other costs, timelines, funding and staffing requirements to meet business unit and company goals. Requirements: Education: * Master Degree in Business, Environmental, Engineering or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of experience, education preferred * Knowledge of Utility DSM Programs, Cost-Effectiveness metrics, and applicable Commercial and Industrial energy-efficient technologies * Advanced fluency with Word and Excel required, Experience with PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio , SharePoint, and required Experience: * Five years of experience in utility DSM program implementation and delivery * Four years of experience with client relationship management. * Demonstrated experience building successful projects or programs for hand off to long term implementation * Proven leadership skills to motivate our cross functional and matrixed teams to ensure excellent delivery through consistent processes and systems. * Adept at listening in order to gather clear and complete information, and disseminate to others through excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication. * Ability to quickly adapt to changing activities Skills/Abilities * Possess strong business acumen and analytic thinking skills. * Experience developing and managing program budgets and savings targets. * Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to successfully communicate with stakeholders to facilitate intelligent product and service solutions. * Demonstrated highly collaborative work style, team building skills and problem solving approach.
