Responsibilities

The Relationship Manager's primary purpose is managing a portfolio of clients with their strategic and daily relationship needs to deliver top-notch customer service. S/he will work closely with the Group Portfolio Manager, Credit and Services teams to execute client requests in an efficient and effective manner. RM collaborates with the Market Lead to increase new relationships of the Bank through a team approach to meet the credit and relationship needs of clients. RM will seek greater penetration of existing relationships through active cross sale of credit and non-credit bank products with the ultimate goal of profitable growth of strategic client relationships.

The Relationship Manager will be responsible for but not limited to the following activities.

Primary responsibility for this position will be that of the servicing of current Bank relationships resulting in efficient delivery of credit and other bank services, introduction to cross sale partners and active portfolio management.

  • Maintain and develop client relationships, exploring opportunities to provide additional credit and non-credit services. Seek to become trusted advisor through regular client contact and relationship building.

  • Serve as Client's primary internal resource as it relates to relationship and credit needs.

  • Identify product/service opportunities for other business units and participates in development of creative solutions to client needs, coordinates presentations, and brings in partners when appropriate.

  • Interact with other team members (Group Portfolio Manager, Market Lead and Credit) to achieve ultimate approval for new business and modifications to existing business, including active participation in and adherence to requirements of Fit Assessment & Deal Screen meetings.

  • Ensure consistency in deal structuring to bridge client needs to appropriate risk mitigation through detailed analysis and underwriting of credit.

  • Present deals at Loan Committee and any necessary pre-meetings.

  • Coordinate all meetings with the client, including any collateral site visits.

  • Collaborate with Market Leader as part of a team to ensure delivery of top-notch client service..

  • Complete necessary analysis and documentation to achieve credit actions related to RM's existing portfolio (e.g., structure, waivers, and modifications).

  • Complete portfolio responsibilities including portfolio reviews, renewals, reporting in a timely manner (quarterly and annually), 5, Shared National Credit, CAMP, etc for credits in his/her portfolio. Serve as resource for Group Portfolio Manager in preparation for portfolio review meetings and will actively communicate knowledge of the risk points within portfolio.

  • Responsible and accountable for the risk rating accuracy and risk identification on assigned portfolio. Seek to actively keep informed of changes to policy and procedure that will impact portfolio (credit policy, risk rating framework, regulatory, compliance requirements).

  • Quarterback to drive deals through the underwriting and closing process.

  • Negotiate legal documentation related to transactions.

  • Maintain active in industry events to maintain current market knowledge and client relationships.

  • Able to produce credit approval documentation independently with occasional guidance on structure, legal documentation, and underwriting.

  • Heightened focus on penetration of relationships (i.e. cross sale).

  • Mentor Commercial Loan Associates, Credit Analysts, and Client Banking Specialists.

Qualifications

  • Min. 7 years in banking

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as RM including experience in underwriting, structuring, loan closing, documentation, and portfolio management

  • Ability to produce an LP independently

  • Master loan structuring to effectively mitigate risk

  • Completion of formal Credit Training

  • College Degree / Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics preferred

  • Ability to foster and maintain commercial relationships with high level of competency

  • Ability to identify risk within credit requests

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge financial analysis and modeling

GENERAL FUNCTION: The Commercial Portfolio Manager III is expected to be a contributing member of the deal team, managing very complex transactions and multiple large corporate and specialty business portfolio tasks. This candidate would be expected to be intimately involved in making recommendations on appropriate credit structures, pricing, etc. Additionally, the PM III will develop knowledge of the specifics related to the large corporate and specialty clients being supported, including unique credit arrangements. Interacts with clients to understand their current performance and proactively identify potential risks at the account and portfolio level. Directly accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts through their review of updated financial statements, proactive monitoring and interaction with Credit Officer, Relationship Team as well as Clients. The PM III will interact with internal and external clients in an effort to proactively understand their goals, their current performance, and their needs. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Undertake analysis of industries and relevant peer groups within them to determine key industry drivers and how these affect individual market participants. Such analysis to be factored into client specific or industry wide credit reports. * Managing the credit transactions process; from the approval process and communicating with various involved groups (e.g. different product groups on a complex transaction) through to arranging for processing of details and changes into the bank's own internal systems. * Preparation, review and negotiation of documentation related to transactions, such as loan documents, guarantees, and security documents. * Participation in the structuring of credit transactions, including negotiations with potential and existing clients. * Evaluation, booking and management of collateral relating to loans, etc. * Monitoring the ongoing business activities and financial performance of existing clients, including financial covenant monitoring. * Implementation of risk management and compliance procedures in accordance with Bank requirements and corporate policies. * Contribute to development of the bank's credit evaluation methodology. * Maintain appropriate client records and an archive of the bank's industry wide and client specific credit work. * Deals with large credit exposures, most complex loans, difficult foreign exchange, interest rate and commodity derivatives. * Following credit policy structures and underwrites commercial loans or makes a recommendation to the appropriate level of credit administration. * Services portfolio and prospective customers. * Manages commercial portfolio risk on an ongoing basis by monitoring customer credit-worthiness, adherence to loan terms and general business conditions. * Responsibility for approval within designated authorities. * Execute problem deal action plans. * Active and visible syndication/club deal role. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May have supervisory responsibilities including mentor/teach junior PM's.
