This role is responsible for assembling and installing commercial heating and refrigeration equipment. The Commercial Refrigeration Installer II interprets blueprints, ensures accurate installation of refrigerant piping, and troubleshoots installation issues. This role specifically installs refrigerant piping, heat pump systems and refrigerant systems including variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems. The ideal candidate has experience installing refrigeration pipe and HVAC/R systems. This position supports level III installers and trains level I installers as required.

Requirements+

  • Install refrigerant pipe and assemblies commercial heating and refrigerant equipment.

  • Utilize knowledge to interpreting blueprints and drawings to determine unit locations and piping routes.

  • Understand how systems operate to include knowledge of valves, basic wiring, and addressing of units.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues with installation and assembly of refrigeration systems.

  • Prepare and select materials to meet job specifications.

  • Diagnose problems with refrigeration system issues, including for super heat and sub-cooling systems. Recommend and implement effective solutions.

  • Execute triple evacuations and recover refrigerants.

  • Ensure that systems are up to code and meet all building and safety standards and all installations are properly sized, aligned, supported, and match final system drawings.

  • Test systems utilizing industry standard techniques to ensure job specifications are met.

  • Install hangers, determine fitting take-outs, purge, cut and prepare pipe, braze and flare fittings.

  • Operate required, specialty tools including hammer drills, three port gauges, purge regulators, flaring tools, vacuum pumps, and recovery machines.

  • Provide maintenance to include unit cleanings, filter changes, and greasing bearings.

  • Collaborate with team members to complete installations and projects efficiently and within deadlines.

  • Makes daily plans, routinely communicates with leadership, and shares knowledge with others at the work site.

  • Always follows safety policies and immediately reports safety incidents.

  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

  • Ensures assigned tools and equipment are properly maintained following preventive maintenance guidelines.

  • Wears the necessary safety Personal Protective Equipment for each job task and construction site.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. These duties may include backing up other departments and/or operating forklifts or construction lifts following the appropriate training.

Qualifications:

  • Two plus year of related experience and required licenses include EPA II, VT Natural Gas and VT Propane licenses. Preferred licenses include Type S (P1 or P2) Plumbing License in Vermont, NH Gas Installer license, EPA Universal, and manufacturing factory training associated heat pump and refrigeration systems.

  • High school diploma or GED diploma required and/or equivalent education and experience.

  • Strong understanding of refrigeration principles, components, and equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and manuals.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Valid driver's license required and able to travel to NY, NH, and VT.

  • OSHA 10 certification is a plus or the ability to complete the certification within 14 days from the hire date.

  • Must be familiar with jobsite safety policies and restrictions.

  • Works quickly and accurately under pressure and can handle considerable stress.

  • Reliable, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required (typically this position works Monday to Friday 8 hours a day).

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop throughout shift.

  • Frequently lifting or moving items up to 75 pounds.

  • Occasionally required to lift, carry, or hold up to 100 pounds.

  • Exposed to extreme temperatures when working outside.

  • Ability to frequently climb up and down and work at height. This includes climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders (6ft to 14ft), and working from extension ladders.

  • Some repetitive motion required.

  • The typical work environment is a construction site setting.
