Commercial Portfolio Manager

(Rockport or Portland, ME)


Provides service and support to commercial loan customers and commercial banking officers. Assists in the development and management of loan account relationships, which comply with established loan policies. Responsible for examination, evaluation, and authorization of customer loan requests. The essential functions are noted below; however, at Camden National responsibilities may evolve over time given organization, technological and/or staffing changes. At any point other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Working knowledge of loan policy

  • Interviews loan applicants, collects, and analyzes information which reflect credit worthiness of customer and merits of

new loan requests and existing loans

  • Serves as the first point of contact in communication and resolving issues for existing customers

  • Assists commercial banking officers to prepare for loan closings, such as completing the commercial loan input form, coordinating the closing, attending the loan closing, post-closing memos, follow-up items with attorney if necessary, etc.

  • Establishes and negotiates loan terms under the supervision of a commercial banking officer

  • Monitors reports and follows existing loans to ensure conformity with terms, monitors portfolio to identify developing trends. Oversees loan payments and takes necessary measures to collect past due accounts

  • Ensures appropriate risk ratings, maintains current file memoranda, financial statements, and condition of electronic credit files

  • Reviews and analyzes financial statements and collateral evaluations, detailed DSCR review

  • Reviews construction requisitions

  • Assists with financial and covenant tracking report

  • Reviews loan documents

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; 3+ years commercial banking experience, including credit analysis

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure

manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Commercial Business Banking Portfolio Manager works directly with Business Bankers, branches, and internal departments to help properly manage, maintain, monitor and grow the Business Banking loan portfolio. Responsibilities include directly and indirectly helping to generate additional relationship income through loan and deposit growth, fee income or additional cross-selling. Maintains strong relationships with customers and continuously strives to assist RMs in reaching sales goals. Responsibilities include Portfolio Management accomplished by actively managing maturities, renewals, amendments, modifications and extensions for the assigned loan portfolio. Working directly with customers to ensure covenant compliance and financial information is up to date. Evaluating and analyzing financial performance of borrower and based on a variety of factors determining an appropriate risk rating. Preparing approval documents and file memos to ensure underwriting is compliant with current Credit Policy standards and practices. Maintains Asset Quality, which includes no 3rd party downgrades (based on LR reports), timely renewals, limited use of admin extensions, no new NPAs, satisfactory credit file maintenance, adherence to all compliance, training and regulatory requirements. This position adheres to compliance procedures and internal/operational risk controls in accordance with any and all applicable regulatory standards, requirements, and policies.
