POSITION PURPOSE

The Commercial Manager is responsible for leading the finance and accounting, supply chain, logistics, sales and marketing and IT areas of the Pinto Valley mine. The Commercial manager will be the equivalent of a site CFO supporting the Mine General Manager for a business with revenue of ~$500 million per annum. The Commercial manager will be a strategic partner to the Mine General Manager and site management team involved in strategic business planning, capital investment decisions and financial oversight.

In addition, the role will oversee management reporting, financial reporting, financial planning, treasury and capital management, oversight of all warehouses, purchasing, and procurement processes and activities, and management of IT and payroll. This role requires strong collaboration between operations and maintenance teams at Pinto Valley as well as the corporate finance team in Vancouver.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leader

  • Contribute to the strategic and tactical reasoning of the financial plan, playing an active role in its implementation

  • Lead Business and Commercial involvement and overall stewardship of Pinto Valley from a Finance perspective

  • Contribute to implementing a financial control environment and supervising the accomplishment of Internal Audit and Financial Controls, Controllership and Treasury operations

  • Be a Business Partner to the Mine General Manager and management team - giving direction and support to other team members as necessary.

Financial / Management Reporting

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting, supply chain, logistical and information technology departments, to ensure the achievement of the department's goals and objectives.

  • Oversee the production of monthly financial statements and business reports to manage the business unit.

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting of the operations, ensuring all transactions are managed in accordance with the Company's accounting policies and procedures.

  • Ensure integrity of the accounting records through effective controls and supervision of accounting staff and implementation of appropriate fit-for-purpose business processes.

  • Ensure compliance of financial statements with International Financial Reporting Standards.

  • Oversee preparation of monthly management reports, leveraging systems capabilities to deliver timely, value-added analysis, key metrics, and reports to support departmental cost reviews.

  • Work with operations to drive understanding of cost drivers and collaborate on cost improvements.

  • Interpret and apply key financial indicators to make better business decisions, using data to improve performance.

Financial Planning / Treasury / Capital Management

  • Drive the planning cycle for annual budgets, forecasts, and life-of-mine plans.

  • Challenge and validate inputs and work with department heads to develop accurate and quality forecasts and budgets.

  • Manage the business unit from a financial perspective, i.e., cash flow management considering operating results and cost expenditures.

  • Provide technical (financial reporting) guidance to the operational staff when required.

  • Design and implement effective working capital management practices to ensure optimal working capital levels for the operation.

  • Oversee cash flow forecasts for the operations and submit timely cash calls to head office.

  • Oversee disbursement of payments in accordance with the Company's delegation of authority.

  • Play a leadership role in developing a culture of prudent capital management.

  • Oversight of the capital requisitions at site, working with other departments on quality and review of AFE's (Authority for Expenditure requests).

  • Managing the rolling capital budget from a prioritization perspective.

Supply Chain

  • Liaise with the Supply Superintendent in ensuring compliance with delegation of authority as it relates to initiation of contracts and reporting processes for the associated commitments.

  • Liaise with the Supply Superintendent to ensure adherence to the corporate accounting policies related to warehousing and inventory management to facilitate optimal deployment of the Company's working capital.

  • Safe and efficient oversight of all Warehouse, Purchasing, and Procurement processes and activities.

IT / Payroll

  • Oversee the payroll function for the operation.

  • Oversee the IT department for the operation.

  • Oversee the assessment and implementation of new technologies at site

  • Review and maintain the business processes and workflows associated with the Company's ERP system (SAP).

Internal Controls / Other

  • Lead Internal and External Audit engagements, ensuring controls are in place to safeguard the company's assets.

  • Oversee the tax compliance and review of financial records with the requirements of federal and provincial income and sales taxes.

  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Promote safety and ethical operations throughout their business dealings.

  • Perform other duties or special assignments as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

(Required, Preferred)

Required:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Manufacturing Accountant (CMA)

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, or Finance

YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

(Required, Preferred)

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of financial management experience, including minimum 5 years of management level experience in accounting and business.

Preferred:

  • Previous mining experience is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA or international equivalent).

  • SAP experience in finance/cost data entry, updating, and reporting.

  • Proficient reporting software (Microsoft Office) with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.

  • Able to self-manage with strong results driven orientation.

  • Able to provide leadership, coaching, direction, and decision-making for a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Demonstrates a growth mindset that embraces continuous learning and improvement.
