Position Overview:

The Commercial Loan Documentation Specialist III is a critical role responsible for the preparation, boarding, and funding of complex commercial, commercial real estate, and SBA loan transactions. As a level III, this role will serve as a subject matter expert for commercial loan documentation. This also involves setting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and protect the bank. The position requires strong analytical skills, an inquisitive mind, and meticulous attention to detail to perform tasks accurately, stay updated on relevant laws and regulations, and continuously improve processes.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of various loan documents and fluency with their content.

  • Prepare all appropriate loan documentation for commercial loans, SBA loans, letters of credit, and other complex loans using Laser Pro software, ensuring adherence to lending regulations, compliance, applicable laws, and the bank's Commercial Banking Policy.

  • Prepare Change-in-Terms documentation using Laser Pro software.

Review approved loan packages for completeness and policy conformity.

  • Coordinate with legal counsel or bankers to prepare documents requiring specific legal language.

  • Resolve and clarify outstanding documentation issues promptly.

Communicate deficiencies or exceptions to bankers and assist with necessary corrections.

  • Conduct stock verifications to ensure accurate collateralization for loans.

  • File new UCC financing statements and amend existing ones as needed.

  • Ensure timely delivery of accurate loan documents through effective communication with bankers and associates.

  • Book commercial, commercial real estate, and residential mortgage loans onto the Fiserv Signature core banking system, preparing related general ledger or funding entries.

  • Fund loans and prepare applicable accounting entries.

  • Review boarding data to ensure complete and accurate documentation.

Process, review, and board general obligation debt and Texas Permanent School Fund insured bonds.

  • Assist with the funding, maintenance, and servicing of participation loans, including coordination of funding, payments, and monitoring notices.

  • Provide backup for documentation preparation and boarding of consumer and consumer real estate loans.

  • Assist with testing systems when updates are released or when new products, regulations, and policies are introduced.

  • Identify and resolve or escalate complex problems with minimal guidance.

  • Prioritize workload based on loan demand to meet service level agreements and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure procedural manuals and samples are regularly updated with detailed instructions.

  • Provide input on procedural changes and other issues to the Loan Documentation Manager.

  • Assist with cross-training and coaching other staff members.

  • Contribute to the development of new techniques and processes to improve the loan documentation function.

  • Stay abreast of changes in bank policies, laws, and regulations, recommending procedural changes to management.

  • Participate in enterprise initiatives related to new products, services, or systems.

Serve as a primary resource for commercial loan documentation-related questions. .

Demonstrate accountability, ethical behavior, results orientation, trustworthiness, and credibility.

  • Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility, with a "can do" approach.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist others in the department as needed.

  • This position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area.

Experience & Education:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in commercial and/or real estate documentation.

  • Demonstrated experience in booking loans on a bank core banking system.

  • Advanced understanding of financial information and lending regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of business processes, systems, and tools used in lending.

  • Experience working with participations and tax-exempt loans.

  • High School Diploma required, bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of proven LaserPro loan documentation experience.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience using a core loan servicing system (preferably Fiserv Signature).

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of loan documentation requirements for commercial and commercial real estate loans and knowledge of legal requirements for commercial and CRE loans.

  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational, time management, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across operations and lines of business.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with employees at all levels.

  • Ability to handle heavy volumes of work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Self-starter with strong initiative and the ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.

  • Occasional overtime or extended hours may be required.
