Job Description:

The Commercial HVAC/R Technician is responsible for driving a company vehicle to and from customer sites to troubleshoot, maintain and repair commercial and HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

To be a successful Commercial HVAC/R Technician, you should be able to work independently and solve problems as quickly and efficiently as possible. To excel in this position, you should have strong technical skills, be a master a trouble shooting and enjoy dealing with people.


  • Troubleshoots and repairs commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

  • Inspects the commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment and their related components to ensure safe operation.

  • Communicates with customer and branch office regarding status of repairs to ensure schedule is maintained and delays are properly communicated with customers.

  • Completes service tickets according to procedures.

  • Tracks truck stock to ensure needed parts are stocked on vehicle.

  • Sustains service vehicle, tools, and uniforms to Tech-24 standards.

  • Sets a positive example for less experienced and/or new technicians by being a Company advocate.

  • Follows all company policies and procedures, particularly regarding safety.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.

  • Repeated bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and climbing up and down ladders.

  • Extensive daily travel to multiple work site locations.

  • Exposure to hot grease from fryers.

  • On-call weekend rotation (frequency varies with branch size).

  • Occasional to frequent exertion in high temperature environment (over heated kitchens, rooftops, etc.).


  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • CFC Card or Universal EPA certified is required

  • HVAC certification is required

  • Superb customer service skills

  • Dependable and able to work independently

  • Standard computer skills

  • Own industry's standard hand tools

  • Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and crawl in tight quarters

  • Ability to work nights, weekend, and holidays for on-call rotation as needed with your department (frequency varies with department size)

  • Mechanically inclined with a hunger to learn new techniques and approaches

  • CFESA certified is preferred

PRINCIPLE DUTIES: * The Maintenance Tech III HVAC maintains, repairs, and installs all aspects of the HVAC systems at the community utilizing technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills under the guidance and support of a supervisor. * Working as a team with the entire Plant department, the Maintenance Tech III performs general maintenance duties, preventive maintenance, service calls, and emergency maintenance as needed and assigned. * Continues to perform minor repairs and similar duties that may be assigned to Maintenance Techs I & II, but is considerably faster and more proficient compared to Tech levels I & II, and requires no oversight or direction. * Provides direction to co-workers through hands-on assistance, direction, support, and development; and serves as a positive role model by way of example. * Displays and practices a work style that reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of the organization. * Provides excellent customer service to residents as demonstrated by doing the following: * May complete apartment turnovers and scheduled pool/pond/lake maintenance. * Assigned one week of on-call duty approximately once each quarter. * Conducts technical training sessions for staff related to HVAC, as well as safety training as scheduled by the assistant director. QUALIFICATIONS: * Refrigeration Processing Certification- EPA Universal Certification a MUST * Minimum five years of increasing responsibilities and experience in troubleshooting and repair of HVAC systems and plant operations equipment in a complex commercial, industrial, or healthcare setting. * Must be knowledgeable in troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and testing of various pumps, boilers, HVAC, cooling towers, kitchen and laundry equipment. * Basic understanding of state and national codes pertaining to HVAC systems. * Basic understanding of electrical circuits on HVAC control systems. * In-depth knowledge of blueprints and schematics. * Computer proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. * Must have a passion for providing excellent customer service.
