UNM-Taos' Professional Skills Department invites New Mexico applicants for Temporary Part time Faculty positions (Adjunct) to teach lower division face to face courses in Commercial Driver's License

  • CDL. These positions will be hired on an as needed basis dependent on student enrollment, course offering matrix, and graduation requirements. Potential courses include but are not limited to lower division (100-200 level) courses in the above mentioned disciplines include the following:

CDL 110

  • CDL A

Upon completion students should acquire their Class A CDL Permit by successfully passing their General Knowledge exam, Air Brakes exam, Combinations exam, as administered by the State of New Mexico.

CDL 111 - Road Driving

This section is focused on the students developing the necessary skill to safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle on public roadways.

CDL 120 - Yard and Range Skills

This course will help students develop problem solving and other skills needed to traverse real life driving situations they may encounter once employed as a commercial driver.

CDL 121 - Endorsement Training

Students will be taught sections 7-1, 8-1, 9-1, 11-1, 12-1, and 13-1 of the New Mexico State CDL Manual. Students will be asked to take sample tests of these sections to demonstrate their knowledge.

CDL 210 - Yard Skills II

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate their ability to perform a Pre-Trip, an Air Brake Test, and drop and hook a trailer.

CDL 215 - Class B Passenger Endorsement

To provide students with the knowledge, training and necessary skills to prepare for the Class B Passenger Endorsement Commercial Driver's License exam. Offered on a CR/NC basis only.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or HSE and current CDL Class A and Class B Passenger Endorsement or ability to obtain the Class B prior to employment and five years of professional experience in the CDL industry. This may include interstate driving and or acceptable full or part-time equivalent employment/work experience which must be verified and documented. Any licensure, certification(s), registration(s), other similar regulatory credential(s) which must be continuously maintained and in good-standing will be required.

  • The successful candidate must be fully aware of the regulations required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regarding Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) https://tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six or more years of professional experience in the industry.

  • Prior experience teaching CDL Class A

  • Post-Secondary Education

  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
