Position Summary

Responsible for providing superior customer service through safe, effective, and timely delivery of parts and tires to all commercial customers. Responsible for safely operating a delivery truck of less than three (3) tons and ensuring the delivery load is stacked, padded, and properly secured. This position will be expected to perform additional related job responsibilities as needed and assigned, such as assisting in store operational activities when deliveries are not being made. This position has been designated as a safety-sensitive position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of properly operating and maintaining the commercial delivery truck. This includes obeying all state, county, and local laws; reporting accidents, incidents and/or violations or traffic citations.

  • Ensure all delivery loads are stacked, padded, and properly secured.

  • Verify the load accuracy against the Bill of Lading and acquires the appropriate signatures. Writes customer orders and provides instruction when necessary.

  • Load and unload product on the delivery truck by hand, hand truck, or dolly.

  • Expected to collect cash and checks from commercial customers. Follows all policies and procedures related to cash, credit, check, refund and return policies.

  • Provide important information to the Commercial Sales Specialist regarding competitor promotions, pricing, and feedback you receive from current commercial customers.

  • Effectively communicate with all store associates, management, and customers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

  • Valid driver's license without any DUI's.

  • Successful completion of drug and background tests.

  • Ability to read instructions, policies, procedures, bills of lading, and product descriptions and complete forms (write)

  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and fractions.

  • Ability to apply mathematical formulas to calculate commissions and discounts.

  • Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Bus Driver class has the primary duty of transporting students in a bus over established routes or on field trips. Transporters have the primary function of transporting supplies, materials, and food over established routes and working in District warehouses. Bus Drivers differ from the class of Transportation Dispatcher in that no dispatching and routing functions are included in the normal duties. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Drives a school bus over designated routes according to established time schedules; picks up and discharges pupils at designated stops; assists handicapped students to board or leave the bus and escort others as needed; supervises the conduct of pupils on daily routes and on various special events and athletic trips; maintains order among students on the buses and waiting at bus stops; inspects bus daily prior to operation for safety purposes in accordance with the Vehicle Code relating to pupil transportation and reports any mechanical defects; keeps bus interior, the windows and mirrors clean; washes bus as required; keeps simple records reflecting number of passengers carried, miles covered, departure and arrival time and the like; may plan route for special trips; may render first aid to passengers; performs other related duties as needed. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Experience: Three (3) years experience in the operation of a motor vehicle is preferable with at least one year driving a heavy vehicle such as a truck or bus. Knowledge of: Safe driving practices; safety equipment and procedures relating to bus safety; the provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code, Education Code, Administrative Code (Title V), and California Highway Patrol's School Bus Driver's and Carrier's Handbook (HPH 82.7) applicable to the operation of school buses in the transportation of school children. Drivers also sit for extended periods of time although the employee frequently stands and walks when not driving. Incumbents in this position frequently climb steps to get in and out of the bus and may climb ladders/stairs. Seeing to monitor passengers and operate a vehicle include specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
