Technicians are system experts that provide advanced and specialized knowledge, skills and consultation that ensure successful installation and restoration of key operating equipment for the multi-billion dollar steel business. This role is directly responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing equipment, with varying complexity, operates according to design standards that enable manufacturing specifications to be achieved which have a direct impact to the product characteristics. Technicians are the next (higher) level of reliability support once the skills of electrical/mechanical maintainers have been exhausted.


  • Design, analyze, and engineer solutions with engineers and other groups.

  • Responsible for analyzing, decoding, and making small PLC changes which would include schematic reading and drawing.

  • Investigate, diagnose, test, calibrate, install, repair and perform preventative maintenance on electronic, electromechanical/combustion/industrial gas equipment and systems throughout the plant, to ensure optimal asset utilization, productivity, efficiency and reliability.

  • Provide advanced or specialized knowledge, skills and tools to restore equipment operation and process integrity.

  • Provide support to Maintainers, Operators and Engineers to correct malfunctions, enhance performance and promote continuous improvement.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing equipment, the complexity of which varies significantly from manual to state of the art/ highly automated, operates according to the specified design standards. Optimal operation is critical to the products quality and manufacturing characteristics.

  • To coordinate and plan for the repair of all electronic and combustion equipment removed from the field due to malfunctions or defects. This includes tracking the status of repairs, assessing the quality of the repairs, and maintaining stock of spare parts.

  • Responsible for continuous learning and development of work skills and technical through attendance of training classes with vendors, online, and on the job training.

  • Responsible for the successful installation, testing and commissioning of new capital equipment.

  • Liaison and interface with suppliers, vendors, contractors, OEMs, and other parties to properly select and repair equipment and quickly rectify problems.

  • To effectively perform and complete all assigned project work efficiently, on time and safely within a fast paced work environment.

  • Must be willing to work on-call hours.

The responsibilities for these specific openings will have a particular emphasis on the investigation, diagnosis, calibration, installation, and repair of combustion equipment and systems throughout the plant including but not limited to:

  • Flame Safety and Controls

  • Burner and Burner Ignition systems on industrial furnaces

  • Pyrometer calibration

  • Instrumentation (Flow, Pressure, Differential, Actuators, etc.)

  • Block and Bleed (safe pipe purging techniques)

  • Temperature Uniformity Studies and System Accuracy Tests

  • Utilization of Gas Analyzers


  • High school diploma or equivalent with apprenticeship in industrial/electrical or equivalent experience in industrial/electrical OR

  • Associate's degree (preferred)

  • Technical/Functional Skills:
    Variety of PLCs

  • AC and DC circuit analysis

  • Working knowledge of electrical/electrical systems/instrumentation/sensors/testing equipment

Ball is a Lean/SixSigma environment. The Warner facility produces steel coil, flat-sheet coat & lithography products and services. Additionally, they produce an aluminum membrane easy-open end (EZO) for Ball's Food & Aerosol Packaging division. The location, when fully staffed, will employ approximately 140 employees. Located in Canton, Ohio, approximately 60 miles south of Cleveland, the plant has been part of Ball Corporation since 2015. Canton is home to many well-known national landmarks including the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame. Job Duties: Primary Purpose of Position: Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant's overall business plans and objectives as directed. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: * Complies with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. * Supports and follows the guidelines of the food safety system. * Performs various manual or mechanical production functions by operating, adjusting, and repairing the production equipment to meet customer specifications. * Disassembles, overhauls, and rebuilds production equipment. * Performs troubleshooting on production equipment as required. * Performs preventative maintenance on production equipment as required. * Performs on-the-job training and development of assigned personnel. * Conducts inspection of in-process materials and in-process and finished products. * Responsible for replenishing supplies, materials, parts, and tooling required for assigned area. * Relieves operators and maintainers for breaks as needed. * Performs as vacation relief for other maintainers. * Performs record keeping duties as required under the direction of management. * Communicates pertinent information to next shift. * Supplies and maintains required hand tools. * Performs clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties. * May be responsible for facilitating efficient operation of weld lines by way of walkthroughs, focusing on bottlenecks, inefficiencies, etc. * Assists line maintainers in addressing, evaluating, and correcting equipment/production issues. * May review work orders completed on respective crew. * Initiates, reviews, and follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility. * Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the division, the group, and the company.
