Roetzel's Columbus office seeks a highly experienced litigation legal assistant.
Nature and Scope
The Litigation Legal Assistant supports the practice of their assigned attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s).
Provides administrative and clerical support to attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s) in support of their specific practice groups needs and requirements.
Transcribes/types all correspondence, produces letters, court documents, legal forms, and internal administrative forms as directed or required.
Responsible for incoming, outgoing, and internal mail of their assignment.
Maintain orderly filing of correspondence/documents for all matters assigned to supervising attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s), including those not in direct custody at workstation; maintain knowledge of client files assigned to file clerk, if applicable.
Correct and update client billings as directed, and process such billings to the Accounting Department for final processing in accordance with established procedures.
Maintain updated professional schedules/calendars of assigned attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s).
Manage appropriate communications with clients and professional associates on behalf of assigned attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s) when unavailable and as directed.
Complete and process miscellaneous disbursement charge records pertaining to client billings in accordance with established procedures.
Complete and process required forms for the opening of new matters and closing files as directed and in accordance with established procedures.
Assist with secretarial overflow work from within practice group or in other practice groups when requested and as available.
Perform additional secretarial duties required by the involvement of assigned attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s) in any firm administrative duties, firm committees, and community/professional associations and organizations.
Make required travel arrangements for assigned attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s).
Interface with file clerks, docket clerks, Accounting, IT, and mailroom as it relates to supporting the attorney(s) and/or paralegal(s).
Other duties or projects assigned consistent with the nature of the position and goals of the organization.
High School graduate or equivalency required; post-secondary related education or training preferred.
Minimum five+ years prior litgation legal secretarial experience preferred.
Knowledge of Ohio courts filing procedures.
Typing skills of 60+ wpm required.
Demonstrated ability to use MS Office.
Transcribing experience or adaptability to transcribe dictation required.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with deadlines and changing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work and time.
Customer service attitude and approach for interacting with clients.
Strong knowledge of legal vocabulary and abbreviations.
Strong grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills.
Detail oriented, excellent communication skills, and flexible.
Effectively uses practice-specific programs.
