Job Title: Color Guard Instructor High School

Supervisor: Building Principal
Contract: Extra Duty Fall/Spring

Job Summary: The Color Guard Instructor instructs students in the fundamentals of advanced flag technique, provides supervision of students at extracurricular events, manages the color guard budget, creates choreography for performances and evaluates program effectiveness in alignment with program goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Recruits students
Attends a variety of supporting activities (e.g. parent orientations, recruiting, recognition events, banquets,
fundraising events, etc.) for the purpose of providing information regarding the program and/or recognizing participants' accomplishments.
Create and teach choreography to students
Develops practice plans, attends practices and evaluates team and individual performance in alignment with program goals.
Develop a plan of action for fundraising and budgeting for the purpose of maintaining and balancing activity accounts.
Instruct students in routines and techniques for the purpose of teaching and improving fundamental skills.
Maintains open communication with students and parents.
Partners with the High School Band Director for the purpose of evaluating program needs.
Provides Color Guard participation at extracurricular events(e.g. football games, pep rallies, parades and community events, etc.) for the purpose of providing support and school spirit.
Reviews schedules, procedures and develops routines for the purpose of creating an organized, unified program.
Supervises students at any extracurricular events for the purpose of ensuring proper student behavior in
accordance with Board policies.
Supervises and instructs students at practices, camps and all related Color Guard activities.

1.Knowledge:
Of rules and regulations of the activity to which assigned.
Of fundamentals, techniques, and strategies of the activity to which assigned.
Of safety factors involved in the activity assigned.
Of physical ability and limitations of the level he/she is teaching.
Of Medford School District Policies, Rules and Regulations.
2.Skills:
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with people.
Must be able to demonstrate basic skills of activity to which assigned.
Must have the ability to organize, supervise, and evaluate the total activity program.
3.Attitudes:
Must be positive.
Should be enthusiastic.
Should possess a willingness to cooperate and to adjust to various situations.

4.Experience:

Previous coaching experience of activity to which assigned is preferred.
Previous experience as participant of activity to which assigned preferred.
Previous teaching experience preferred.

5.Training:
Valid Oregon teacher certification is preferred.
College training in coaching desirable.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision. Must speak clearly to be understood by others and identify and understand the speech of another person. Emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and control all aspects of the job.
