Data Center Services (DCS) is a shared service organization within Enterprise Information Services (EIS.) DCS serves the citizens of Oregon by enabling and supporting the missions of more than 150 State of Oregon agencies, Boards and Commissions through the delivery of Information Technology (IT) services. The DCS team maintains and operates a state-of-the-art Data Center, providing a highly secure environment with redundant infrastructure for high availability and efficiency. The services we provide include network connectivity (WAN, LAN, and Wireless), server hosting (mainframe, iSeries, AIX, Linux, and Windows), email services, Data Center colocation and data backup services.

As the Colocation Engineer you will provide the highest levels of technical expertise in working with DCS customers and DCS service owners in the design for the Colocation service. Co-Location service provides power, cooling and security for agency owned computer equipment. This service is offered to all Executive branch agencies to take advantage of the state's purpose-built Data Center investments. You will be the chief advisor to the Enterprise Business Operations Manager in the design and service delivery for DCS agency partners for the Colocation service. service, including billing, asset management, network, surveillance, and security. You will work with agency customers to on-board their equipment into their specifically designed Colocation space. You will work with the customers and service line Subject Matter Experts (SME) to define network, rack assignments, access control and monitoring along with other requirements.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years of information systems experience in: Data Center operations; OR

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND 5 years of information systems experience in: Data Center operations; OR

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND three (3) years of information systems experience in: Data Center operations; OR

  • A Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in: Data Center operations.

Desired Attributes:

  • Skilled in current Data Center technologies, system and process development methods, and the use of computing resources at all levels.

  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers and other agencies and the public.

  • Strong technical analytical skills in a Data Center environment.

  • Proven ability and skill to clearly explain complex/technical concepts in terms that are understandable for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Requires demonstrated project management skills.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Data Center safety best practices.

  • Possesses an understanding of mechanical, electrical systems that are used in a Data Center environment including but not limited to: electrical distribution (power Distribution Units or PDUs), mechanical and electrical controls, diesel generators, backup power systems, HVAC systems, fire detection and suppression systems.

  • Ability to operate hand and machine tools (hammer, drill, electrical tools etc.)

  • Possesses critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience supporting Colocation services in a Data Center environment and/or utilizing DCIM tools for reporting and monitoring systems.
