E Ink California, LLC. is seeking an experienced colloidal chemist to join the material R&D team to be the champion for novel particle chemistry, synthesis, and colloidal design. As part of an innovative research team, this candidate will bring strong synthesis expertise to the team and contribute to new materials research and development in the field of electrophoretic displays (EPD)Responsibilities Design and invent innovative colloid particles, polymers and oligomers according to electrical, physical and chemical requirements. Such materials with special functionalities will be used in novel formulations to widen product capability
Synthesize colloids, polymers in lab scale, characterize physical and chemical properties, develop analytical methods that correlate to performances in product to identify critical to function parameters
Scale up the synthesis, establish quality control test methods and specifications, transfer to manufacture facility, provide documentation and training
Investigate and explore new ideas, demonstrate proof of concept, create new intellectual properties
Participate in cross functional teams in technology and product development.
Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, promote and contribute to a cohesive team working culture.
Qualifications Ph.D in polymer chemistry, colloid chemistry, colloid and interface science
Strong knowledge on materials structure design with in depth understanding of structure-property relationships
Extensive experience in colloid synthesis, polymer synthesis and different type of polymerization techniques
Hands on experience in particle surface functionalization and surface modification
Demonstrated experience in synthesis of polymer latex and polyurethane dispersions is a plus
Knowledge and experience in adhesive and coating formulation is a plus
Synthesis process scale up experience in industry is preferred
Experience in trouble shooting, show a data driven approach to problem solving and an ability to work under pressure.
High energy and self-motivated, candidate must be goal-oriented, creative, and be able to handle multiple tasks
