Description:Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems has exciting positions for interns available across several facets of our Finance and Business Operations functions, including:

  • Program Finance

  • Program Planning

  • Estimating/Pricing

  • Contracts

  • Controller/Accounting functions

Business needs and opportunities vary by location. General descriptions of each type of position are below.

Program Finance:

Compiles and reviews budgets using actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports, and other data sources to control funds and provide for proper financial administration. Performs multiple financial cost analyses functions, including cost allocation, setting up cost control systems, collecting data, controlling costs and preparing reports that maintain the company's cost accounting system.

Program Planning:

Establishes and coordinates business rhythms required to accomplish program control, analyses and forecasting objectives. Utilizing applicable project management tools, implement network logic and measurement methods to perform critical path and risk analyses. Communicate schedule impacts and propose corrective actions to applicable stakeholders.

Estimating/Pricing:

Compiles cost, schedule, and technical elements in the development of cost proposals in accordance with customer request for proposal (RFP) specifications and current RMS estimating guidelines. Coordinates the collection and accumulation of cost, scheduling, and functional departments. Researches and analyzes historical data, develops cost models to support proposal efforts. Coordinates activities and participates in customer fact-finding meetings. Participates in pricing reviews with management and customer representatives. Participates as a member of the contract negotiating team.

Contracts:

Negotiates, administers, extends, terminates and renegotiates standard and nonstandard contracts. Evaluates contract performance to determine necessity for amendments or extensions of contracts, and compliance to contractual obligations. Ensures final contract documents are consistent with agreements reached at negotiations.

Controller/Accounting functions:

Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Maintains or oversees the control of accounts and records in such areas as disbursements, expenses, tax payments, and income. Compiles and analyzes financial information to record transactions, prepare reports, and review and verify accuracy. Prepares balance sheet and profit and loss statements, consolidated financial statements, and other accounting schedules and reports.

Interns who perform with excellence and meet minimum qualifications may be extended a full-time offer to join our Early Career Development Program (ECDP) after graduation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field at an accredited college or university

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Ability to temporarily relocate if required

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite tools, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite tools, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel knowledge highly preferred for Finance positions

  • Knowledge of financial systems such as SAP and Hyperion

  • Familiar with professional planning software such as Microsoft Project

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills and ability to work independently

  • Familiar with GAAP

Candidate will support software engineering tasks for Controls, Launchers & Weapons programs and the Littoral Ship Systems Programs. The Locale: Middle River is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County, Maryland located on the Chesapeake Bay. It is located 10 minutes from Downtown Baltimore, featuring the famous Inner Harbor, National Aquarium, and Fort McHenry – the birth place of the Star Spangled Banner. Amtrak and the Maryland Transit Administration's MARC Train supply both regular and commuter rail service to Baltimore, Washington, DC and surrounding areas. The Middle River facility is less than an hour away from the Lockheed Martin Corporate offices in Bethesda, MD. Baltimore/Middle River is a centralized location on the eastern seaboard and the Lockheed Martin facility is located less than a mile from the Martin State Airport train station allowing for easy commuting to and from many locations on the east coast. Our facility houses an on-site gym, wellness center, and the Lockheed Martin Federal Credit Union. A one to four hour drive takes you to areas such as Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York, as well as the Virginia/Maryland Eastern Shore, DelMarVa beaches, the Jersey shore, and West Virginia. Annapolis, Maryland, the state capital, is less than an hour away and while there a visit to the home of the United States Naval Academy or traveling the Baltimore and Annapolis bike/hiking trail is a must. Washington, DC is also within a 2 hour drive, featuring many of the national museums, monuments, and memorials as well as the renowned National Zoological Park. Due to the variety of topography, the state of Maryland is known as America In Miniature. This includes the beaches on the Eastern Shore to the marshlands to the mountains in Western Maryland. There are many activities to participate in including hiking/biking trails, league sports, white water rafting, fishing, skiing/snowboarding to name a few. Basic Qualifications: Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a technical degree program in an engineering or related field (e.g. Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering) from an accredited University.
