Relationships
Collaborates with and is supported by the Assistant Principal and Principal and collaborates with members of the Student Services Department. Supports, cultivates, and mentors students. Interfaces primarily with generalist counselors, Assistant Principal, Registrar and faculty. The College Counselor reports to the Principal via the Assistant Principal of Student Services.
Qualifications
Dispositions: The successful candidate will aim to mediate a Catholic Culture within the school faith community, communicate Catholic moral and intellectual values, provide strong, collaborative leadership in the areas of student college advising and associated domains, develop joyful and professional interpersonal relationships with stakeholders, demonstrate precision, accuracy, self-direction and collaboration in all areas of responsibility, and view their service as a vocation that is grounded in truth, charity, and the characteristics of Lasallian ministry.
Experience:
Required: Three to five years of experience in high school college counseling and/or college admissions.
Preferred: Five or more years of experience in high school college counseling and/or college admissions.
Education and licensure:
Required: Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. A graduate degree will be required within a specified time post-employment.
Preferred: Graduate degree in School Counseling, Educational Psychology, or closely related field. Illinois Professional Educator License with School Counselor K-12 endorsement
Summary
The college counselor is delegated primary responsibility by the Principal for those areas in the academic program having to do with post-secondary counseling, from advising students on the college admission and financial aid process and parent educational meetings to maintaining current, best practice awareness of college counseling. The college counselor is delegated primary direction for the successful facilitation and execution of a four-year college plan and all associated expectations and requirements.
Areas of shared responsibility include the continued development of a culture of high expectations grounded in Gospel teachings and reflective of college readiness and investment in post-secondary career planning. Areas of shared direction include the support of all students with college preparation in conjunction with fostering the Resurrection College Prep High school mission and the broad goals of the Student Services department.
In collaboration with the members of the Student Services department and school leadership, the college counselor will:
Design and coordinate college informational programming for all stakeholders that reflects the goals, objectives, and mission of Resurrection College Prep High School.
Effectively respond to the diverse needs of our student and parent communities as they interface with higher education.
Facilitate the behind-the-scenes components of the college admissions process.
Continually develop knowledge of college admission trends to share with counselors, students, faculty, and parents.
Compose recommendation letters, college documents, and submit school application materials.
Primary Responsibilities:
Execute all elements of a four-year College Admissions Plan for Resurrection students
Oversee the school's SCOIR account regarding college and career exploration through the Advisory Program, which includes all class levels and all faculty/parent/student professional development
Communicate essential information related to college events, college fairs, standardized tests, scholarships, and summer programs to the Resurrection community
Publish communications to external stakeholders, including school board and social media posts
Coordinate all post-secondary programs and services, including College Night, Parent Nights, Financial Assistance events
Serve as the point person for all college visits, from initial communication with College Representatives to follow-up feedback on visit
Host a variety of interactions with current 11th and 12th grade students, ranging from one-on-one sessions to small group and classroom-style options
Serve as the point person for Illinois State Scholars designation, ACT Score reporting, SAT score reporting, IHSA All-State Academic Teams selection process
Provide direct support to students in the Chick Evans Scholarship application process as well as students registering for NCAA and NAIA eligibility centers
Other duties as needed by the Student Services department or as assigned by Principal or their designee
