Job Description Summary

The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a part-time College & Career Readiness (CCR) Instructor to teach classes at Lifequest in Washington, NC. Beaufort County Community College offers an academic program at Lifequest for students with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) focusing on academic skills, life skills, financial literacy, and digital literacy.

The CCR Instructor is responsible for teaching academic and life skills to diverse adult learners, with a strong emphasis on career exploration. This role involves developing and delivering engaging curriculum that enhances students' literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking abilities while equipping them with practical life skills essential for personal and professional success. The instructor will guide students through career exploration activities, helping them identify potential career paths, set goals, and develop the necessary skills for workforce readiness. Additionally, the instructor will assess student progress, provide individualized support, and collaborate with community organizations to ensure comprehensive support for learners' educational and career aspirations.

Classes are held Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 2:30 - 4:30 pm. This position reports to the Director of College & Career Readiness.

Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution

Prior experience teaching adult learners. Also, all relevant full- and part-time work experience related to the teaching discipline should be included on the application, including start and end dates.

Preferred Qualifications Essential Duties

The Continuing Education Instructor works cooperatively with BCCC staff to perform the following:

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.

  • Maintain accurate registration, attendance, payroll records, and student portfolios for each course taught.

  • Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.

  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.

  • Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.

  • Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.

  • Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.

  • Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.

  • Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

  • Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.

  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.

  • Comply with the College's policies and procedures.

FLSA Non-Exempt Estimated Hours per Week Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 2:30 - 4:30 pm (6 hours a week) Range Based on the College's salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience.
