BASIS Independent Fremont Upper is seeking qualified candidates for a College Admissions Counselor position for the coming school year!

The Role:

The primary role of this College Admissions Counselor is to provide dedicated support to our high school students in navigating the college and career planning process and deliver the best possible application to targeted school. This entails conducting regular meetings with individual students, group sessions, and engaging with parents and college representatives to ensure comprehensive student readiness and success. The College Admissions Counselor also instructs the College Admissions course which is designed to help students identify their target universities based on their interests, and prepare their best applications to showcase their abilities, high school experiences, and college readiness to for successful college admissions.

Position Qualifications

Experience working in a private high school with at least two years as a College Counselor; OR experience as an admissions counselor in a university setting with insights on what comprises successful college entrance applications; experience with SCOIR

A bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree is preferred. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card.

A successful applicant must demonstrate a high level of academic attainment and experience working in a high school or university setting. Beyond this, strong communication skills in speaking with parents, students, admissions officers, and colleagues are essential as is the ability to elicit (not simply edit) competitive application essays and write exceptional letters of recommendation. Finally, a successful applicant will be flexible and work well in a fast-moving team environment.

  • Ability to build excellent rapport and productive relationships with middle and high-school students

  • Work effectively in a small team environment with a "can-do-anything" mindset

  • Knowledgeable of the U.S. college admissions process and a proponent of the "best-fit" model as a goal for families

  • Ability to build a world-class college admissions and career planning program from scratch for outstanding students

  • Ability to resolve productively conflicts among students and their parents about college and career goals
