Position Summary: The Collections Specialist supports the Business Office with maintaining a program that reduces student account write-off cost by initiating collection efforts through various communication methods.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for all collections efforts of past due tuition accounts to include phone calls, letters, emails and other communication efforts.
Contact students and communicate the need for payment and/or consequence of non-payment.
Use information from other departments, post office, internet searches and other tools to try to locate students who have moved or changed phone numbers.
Work with students to negotiate payment arrangements, make decisions to deviate from the expected payment terms (if applicable), document payment arrangements and follow up on agreed plans.
Send timely communications about past due accounts.
Maintain records of contacts and attempted contacts with delinquent students as well as record of any payments collected.
Track, monitor and update management on the collection efforts.
Recommend strategies and tactics for the reduction of past due balances and the processing of bad debt write offs.
Manage special projects as assigned by the Student Account Manager
Regular, predictable attendance on campus

Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong verbal/written communication skills.
Excellent customer service experience skills.
Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
Strong attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Must be flexible, show effective judgement, discretion and have the ability to handle confidential financial matters.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma required
Minimum of 2 years Collection's experience required;
Prior higher education experience preferred
Experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to utilize multiple systems required
Experience with PowerCampus, Transact, Workday preferred
