SUMMARY

The Collections Manager will be responsible the overall day to day management of the Collection staff. This could include planning, organizing, communicating and the successful execution of processes for Collection activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulatory and investor guidelines.

This position is responsible for managing assigned functional area(s) within the banks to include Commercial, Consumer (Direct and Indirect), Home Loans/Mortgage and/or Payment Services/Credit Card Collection including:

  • Loan Collections

  • Workout functions including Charge Off/Non-Accrual, Recovery/Repossession, Foreclosure, Bankruptcy, Probate/Insurance or

  • Support function representing policy, procedures, projects, process improvements, systems, regulatory, audit and compliance requirements, reporting, training, vendor management, call monitoring, acquisitions, investor guidelines/government monitoring and private mortgage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages all Collections activities for assigned channels, ensuring that delinquent accounts are called according to procedure and that late-stage delinquencies are managed through the appropriate workout processes.

  • Manages other Collections responsibilities including maintaining policies and procedures; managing internal projects; partnering with sys admin in administrating systems; hosting internal audits and compliance reviews; overseeing development of Collections reporting; training team members; vendor management; call monitoring; and supporting bank acquisitions or initiatives.

  • The collection manager will manage 10-15 direct reports and is responsible for their individual training, coaching and development.

  • Utilizes data to drive performance results and looks for opportunities to improve processes.

  • Manages efforts and working relationships with legal counsel or third parties to facilitate the liquidation of the bank's collateral resulting in the highest possible collection in the shortest possible time frame.

  • Demonstrates situational awareness with a strong sense of urgency by responding immediately to escalated issues and rapidly changing priorities.

  • Obtains and maintains overall awareness of other First Interstate Bank operational and lending areas and identifies synergies and opportunities available across lines of business related to like functions and processes.

  • Participates in internal and external training to maintain knowledge of bank products; attends review and exception meetings; and stays abreast of all regulatory and credit policies and changes.

  • Operates within established budget. Ensures the cost effectiveness of all Collections processes.

  • Leads and facilitates working meetings that result in actionable items and provide direction to teams.

  • Drives focus on forward progress and creativity, even when working through complex, often competing needs.

  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Ensures Departmental resources are provided with the applicable tools to effectively perform assigned position responsibilities including.

  • Ensures that Collection objectives are synchronized with First Interstate Banks vision, missions and values.

  • Participates in internal and external training to maintain knowledge of Bank products; attend Review and Exception meetings and keep abreast of all regulatory, credit policies and changes.

  • Actively ensures compliance with the Code of Ethics and all Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act, information security and suspicious activity reporting requirements, policies, and procedures.

  • Recommends improvements and takes necessary actions to make updates to policies, procedures and technological tools as needed to ensure an effective and competitive operating environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year College or University or five (5) or more years' experience in finance, Business Administration, Risk anagement, Credit, Collections, or a related field is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Progressively responsible work experience in Collections, Call Center, Risk Management, or related environment with managerial experience of increasing levels of responsibility is preferred, including experience with Collections and/or Credit Risk Management/Special Assets, and "workout" (Non-accrual/Charge Off, Recovery/Repossession, Foreclosure, Bankruptcy, and Probate/Insurance).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, industry related news and articles, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries of complaints of customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must be well-versed in financial reporting, integrity of reporting, and risk mitigation principles.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Demonstrates a high level of critical thinking to address problems decisively and develop long term, sustainable solutions. Reinforces culture of shared ownership and accountability for results.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
