The University Library is pleased to invite applications for the special appointment of a Collection Engagement Librarian in the Department of Research and Technical Services. The Collection Engagement Librarian works with faculty to build awareness of and involvement with the physical and electronic resources of the Hofstra University Library. The librarian in this position will act as the collection liaison to campus faculty with the primary charge to cultivate relationships with faculty across campus to facilitate engagement with the print and digital collections.

The Collection Engagement Librarian will incorporate practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility into their delivery of training to faculty in all schools and departments on electronic platforms used to access print and digital resources, as well as subject specific databases. This librarian will initiate, develop, and maintain connections with teaching faculty to inform on-going development of the print and digital collections to assure the collection's relevance to the curricular and research needs of faculty and students, and mission of the University.

The Collection Engagement Librarian's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishes new connections with faculty across campus to foster engagement with the library's collections and services.

  • Coordinates with subject specialist librarians to strengthen existing connections with department faculty to facilitate engagement with print and digital collections.

  • Collaborates with subject specialists and department liaisons to develop training programs for faculty of schools and departments on print, electronic and digital resources.

  • Provides training to faculty, colleagues, and administration.

  • Works with colleagues to develop tutorials, videos, and other learning objects related library initiatives.

  • Performs collection assessments using data analysis techniques to facilitate collection development.

  • Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments with responsibility for outreach, training, research consultation, collection development, and development of learning materials.

  • Prepares and submits monthly engagement statistics.

  • May participate in projects, strategic planning, and other library‐wide initiatives.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • An ALA accredited M.L.S./M.L.I.S. degree.

  • 3‐5 years of experience in academic libraries.

  • Experience with collection management in an academic library.

  • Familiarity with and ability to learn how information is used in a variety of academic fields and disciplines in all formats.

  • Ability to use emerging technologies effectively to deliver training.

  • Experience with or training in instructional design concepts.

  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility within teaching, learning, and engagement services and experiences.

Preferred Quals Summary

  • Second master's degree in a related discipline required for appointment at Assistant Professor rank.

  • Knowledge of scholarly communication and the academic library environment.

  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Working knowledge of Worldcat Discovery/OCLC Library Management System and related systems.

Salary/Salary Range $58,000-$65,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
