This job is an individual contributor primarily responsible for completing and reviewing various unique appraisals in the agricultural lending area as well as determining and securing appropriate collateral for lending needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing and analyzing technical and legal documentation, using judgement to identify appropriate comparables, determining appropriate entries into appraisal software, entering into contracts with external appraisers and communicating throughout the appraisal process with both internal staff and customers.

In this job, you will:

  • Perform internal appraisals of agricultural properties, research and analyze subject property data and market data to provide current collateral valuations.

  • Engage appraisers from approved list of appraisers, manage bidding process, award process, and report delivery process.

  • Respond to inquiries from appraisers regarding property data and appraisal assignment conditions.

  • Review and analyze appraisals performed by external appraisers in compliance with appropriate compliance and/or regulatory rules and confirm appraisal valuation is accurate/acceptable and collateral is acceptable as related to the scope of the assignment to meet investor requirements (includes analyzing market analysis and approaches utilized to value property to provide estimated value).

  • Prevent delays by providing notification and appropriate coaching for requested revisions.

  • Drive panel performance by developing and managing high-trust vendor relationships.

  • Communicate with loan officers regarding appraisal assignment requirements, conditions and status.

  • Respond to inquiries from credit analysts, loan officers, and members of senior management in order to resolve appraisal disputes and concerns.

  • Serve as a peer and subject matter expert for QC escalations from our appraiser panel.

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with internal staff, customers, and vendors.

  • Complete all required qualifying and continuing appraisal education to receive &/or stay current with appraisal license.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Finance, Business, or related field.

Experience

Required

  • None.

Preferred

  • Experience in agriculture.

License/Certification

Required

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

Required

  • State Certified General Appraisal License or ability to pursue and obtain license and continued education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge/Ability to quickly learn various aspects of appraising agricultural collateral.

  • Advanced mathematical skills (calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest and percentages).

  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe and use of internet search functions).

  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization (including ability to effectively speak before groups of customers and others).

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various resources, such as instructions, third party data, various legal documents, general business periodicals and governmental regulations.

  • Ability to interpret data and incorporate into valuation review.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standards exist.

  • Ability to utilize analytical thinking; find facts and solve problems.

  • Ability to work both in an office setting and outdoors in a farm environment.

  • Ability to perform independent research and analysis.

  • Works effectively under pressure and able to work within tight deadlines.

  • Ability to plat and read legal descriptions and draw maps/aerial photographs.

Physical Demands & Requirements

Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally; including ladders, bushels, ramps for off road vehicles.

Ability to walk in agricultural fields, up to 3 miles.

Ability to climb agricultural storage bins, up to 25 feet.

Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel and balance.

Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.

Ability to meet requirement of and utilize all applicable PPE, when applicable.

Ability to work extended hours, weekend, holidays and/or as needed.

Environmental Conditions

The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.

Travel, up to 50% travel required; most travel is within two hours driving distance of the assigned office. Some out of town travel may be required for trainings/meetings.
