Job Summary

Perform duties in a team environment and operate one or more machines to shear, form and punch forgings from metal bar or coiled stock. Responsible to ensure the quality of work in work cells by monitoring progress of production.

Job Duties

  • Load and operate assigned machines in operating cell(s), monitor quality of incoming steel, dies, punches and tools; change tools & taps as needed during production process.

  • Lay-out tools and understand how they go together with dies and punches.

  • Troubleshoot machine and tooling problems, report non-routine occurrences to leader; perform minor maintenance tasks and machine adjustments as assigned to maintain productivity and quality levels.

  • May assist other operators, technicians and/or leaders in machine set-up.

  • Be responsible as a cell member to measure, record (Statistical Process Control charts) and monitor production and tooling consumption, and adjust and/or stop the process when necessary to control the process.

  • Search for ways to continuously improve work activities, implementing improvements based on standard procedures.

  • Enter operator information & lot numbers on production order schedules & JDE system; use bar code wand to identify and report production activity.

  • Move steel, product, dump shavings/chips/slugs and product pans into appropriate containers, and perform regular housekeeping tasks as necessary to facilitate cell production process.

  • Adhere to Company mission to be the premier Quality supplier of superior products.

  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

  • High School education or equivalent experience plus 1-3 years of applied training in a specialized occupation.

Competencies/ Skills

  • Must be able to work from verbal and written instructions, observation of conditions, production order schedules, blueprints and statistical process control charts.

  • Must be able to use calipers, micrometers, basic hand tools, gages and the on-line JDE computer system.

  • Must have strong mechanical aptitude and good judgment to learn how to plan and perform cell operations.

  • Must be able to use simple arithmetic.

  • Must be a self-starter with good organizational skills and a high level of reliability.

  • Must be a self-motivated team player.
