This position is responsible for coding records by established guidelines to insure appropriate reimbursement is received. Code records by the appropriate coding scheme and verifies the accuracy of the data contained within the medical record. Classifies the patient into the correct MS-DRG, or other payment group, to obtain the most appropriate reimbursement.
This a work-from-home position.
Associate of Science degree in Health Information Technology or a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management required. Must attend educational programs to maintain the required CE hours. RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required.
Must have two to three years experience within an acute care setting with emphasis on ICD-9-CM, CPT coding and the prospective payment system. Near visual acuity for close paperwork is required.
Good motor coordination to operate photocopier, PC, printers, & fax machine. Good hearing ability to operate telephone and assist physicians, office personnel, and general public effectively. Must be able to follow directions and adjust to change. Demonstrated typing ability or computer skills required.
