WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and Clinical Departments to ensure compliant billing practices are maintained.

  • Collaborate with clinical departments and physicians for documentation improvement as well as with regional clinical leadership to respond to changes in clinical practice.

  • Ensure charges and corresponding CPT codes flow properly between the chargemaster and the secondary systems used for charging/documentation.

  • Identify and implement process improvements according to industry best practice standards to make the best use of resources, contain costs and improve coding services across the specialized service lines.

  • Maintain the chargemaster for their specific service line procedures.

  • Monitor activities and ensure documentation and codes are compliant with research regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor changes to coding methodologies, official coding guidelines, regulatory standards, and reimbursement schemes.

  • Provide specialized training for coding staff related to service line assigned such as teaching coders clinical details for new procedures.

  • Review medical records to ensure appropriate assignment of cath lab and interventional radiology codes and corresponding charges.

  • Serve as coding subject matter expert for the Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology coding methodologies.

WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED

  • Prior experience as a Radiology Tech or RN Cath Lab Nurse.

  • RHIT/RHIA wiht previous experience coding cath lab and/or IR.

  • Knowledge of types of health information and the rules and regulations surrounding their use and Managed Care requirements under the Medicare/Medicaid and other third party payor programs.

  • Advanced understanding of CPT coding and coding guidelines and understanding of payer relationships, requirements and compliant billing practices.

  • Interpret test results and formulate reports.

  • Understanding of common medical terminology, anatomy and physiology amd terminology used in diagnosis and classification of illnesses, injuries, and disabilities.

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, generic and trade names, and ICD coding.

  • Understanding of anatomy and physiologic concepts as they relate to relevant diagnostic testing and course of treatment.

  • Critically evaluate and analyze information in written materials.

  • Maintain a positive approach, work cooperatively with others, and demonstrate a constructive response to criticism.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. Job Role Summary The Radiologic Technologist Specialist II - Ultrasonographer/Vascular Ultrasonographer is responsible for preparing and performing ultrasound examinations under the direction of a specialized physician. This includes scheduling patients, reviewing medical history, preparing patients and equipment, administering procedure, and relating results to supervisor. Essential Functions and Responsibilities * Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health's values * Schedules patients and performs ultrasound examinations of designated body regions, under direction of a physician specializing in diagnostic medical sonography * Reviews requisition, patient's medical chart, and records oral history from patient to define reason for diagnostic examination * Educates each patient concerning ultrasound procedures * Prepares ultrasound examination including: positioning and preparing patients for examinations, determining appropriate equipment to be used, setting and modifying controls during procedure for optimal scanning results, and observing patients * Performs ultrasound examination by: using interpretative skills during procedure to identify and record normal/abnormal test results and real/potential medical problems, relating atypical results/problems to supervisor for assessment and action, and may be required to transport imaging equipment to patient bedside * Maintains supplies required for daily use * Assists physicians in performing special examinations, emergency medical care and research projects * Must remain in compliance with all Indiana State Department of Health and The Joint Commission education, license and certification requirements. * Trains and precepts students and/or new employees * Must remain in compliance with all American College of Radiology, Indiana State Department of Health and The Joint Commission education, license and certification requirements. Job Requirements One year of clinical/work experience in radiologic technology with emphasis on Ultrasound.
