JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans, organizes, and directs the daily operations of the coding staff to ensure timely and accurate coding of all patient records processed through the department to support reimbursement, quality assurance, medical staff research, and other administrative functions.

Develops and maintains coding guidelines and monitors relevant reports to ensure timely and accurate coding. Generates necessary reports and manages staff training. Responsible for hiring staff, assigning work and managing the quality and productivity of the team.

Oversees employee performance, audits coding accuracy, and ensures compliance. Coordinates training and develops educational in-services for staff. Educates medical staff on medical record documentation opportunities and coordinates the ordering of coding updates and workbooks.

Performs related responsibilities as required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor degree with 5 years of progressive medical record coding experience to include supervisory and management experience. The combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

A coding certificate through a nationally recognized organization (AAPC, AHIMA, etc.) is required: CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H; advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, billing regulations, Medicare & NCCI guidelines, insurance coverage limitations and managed care protocols preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (MediumMax 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
