Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
Under minimal supervision assists the HIM Director in coordinating coding and charging activities within the scope of the HIM Department including: day-to-day communication with vendors, managing Epic work queues, investigating and completing coding updates and corrections, coordinating appeals, denials, and rebills, creating and maintaining complex Excel worksheets. Serves as the HIM Epic Super-user for coding, and works closely with Epic analysts to support coding and charging workflows, integrated 3M encoder, testing and upgrades.

Required: Associate's degree in Health Information Management or closely related discipline
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or closely related discipline
Required: CCS, RHIT or RHIA certification through the American Health Information Management Association
Required: Two (2) to three (3) years of hospital coding experience for a multidisciplinary healthcare system, at least one year of which includes Inpatient coding
Preferred: Epic certification in coding, experience using 3M-360, experience with hospital charging and revenue cycle initiatives
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Works closely with HIM Director and hospital coding vendor to insure accounts are coded in a timely manner.
Works closely with HIM Director and HIM Managers to support revenue cycle initiatives, including denials and appeals.
Facilitates on-boarding and off-boarding of HIM vendor staff, new HIM employees, and students.
Investigates and troubleshoots coding issues, including Epic coding workflow issues.
Collaborates with HIM Managers to facilitate documents required to complete coding.
Collaborates with IT analysts to manages 3M initiatives such as upgrades and testing.
Manages the repository of coding query templates.
Assist HIM Director in monitoring coding compliance, as well as disseminating information and education regarding coding topics.
Manage HIM ER charging workflows and assist with troubleshooting and investigating issues related to charges.
Interact with organizational leaders, Clinical Documentation Improvement, Hospital and Clinic Billing offices, and others needing HIM coding support.
Develop and maintain reports and educational materials.
Collaborate and support HIM Managers and departmental initiatives.
Maintain current certifications.
Perform other duties as needed.
