General Duties:

The Coder is responsible for coding diagnoses and adding charges to patient accounts, upon thorough review of the medical record documentation. S/he follows Official Coding Guidelines, all HIPAA, Federal, and State Confidentiality, Privacy and Security Laws, and maintains accuracy and productivity standards.

Coding/Billing/Collections for Emergency Medical Services (EMS); Billing and Denials Management Analyst of insurances assigned by the PSF Director


  • Associates Degree in Health Information Management or related field, preferred.

  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification required within 90-days from hire

  • Ability to demonstrate proper time management skills as related to daily schedules and productivity

  • Must be computer literate

  • Skilled in date entry

  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with employees and management.

  • Ability to work independently of direct supervision

  • Well organized and detail oriented

  • Display a willingness to work as a team player

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to prioritized their importance

  • Expertise in reviewing and assigning accurate medical cods for diagnosis, procedures, and services performed by physicians and other qualified healthcare providers in the office of facility setting

  • Proficiency across a wide range of services, including evaluation and management, anesthesia, surgery, radiology, pathology and medicine

  • A sound knowledge of medical coding guidelines and regulations including compliance and reimbursement Understanding of how to integrate medical coding and payment policy changes into a practice's reimbursement processes

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology necessary to correctly code provider diagnosis and services

  • Medicaid, Medicare, HMO experience required
