Coder OP - Full Time, Days

Overview

Job Summary:

Performs coding/DRG abstracting functions for medical records with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes. Abstracts key data elements according to medical records review criteria. Performs coding quality assurance as needed.

The coder Level 1 is responsible for daily billing/coding functions for DMH Occ Med Department. Assists the Department to maintain office flow.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

1.Codes all DM Occ Med Department medical record to ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding and sequence guidelines.

2.Perform coding quality assurance needed

3.Post all charges, print HCFA'S and mails to insurance carriers in a timely manner and accuracy

4.Complies with all departmental and DMH policies and procedures

5.Ensures optimum customer service always provided

6.Opens mail, separates checks, and balances batches

7.Ensures that the clinic charges are received in a timely manner

8.Maintain confidentiality in matters related to patients and employer clients

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required.

Education: HS/GED required. RHIT, RHIT eligible, RHIA, RHIA eligible, CCA, CCA eligible or CPC is preferred.

Experience: Minimum 2 year's experience in hospital or physician's office preferred.

Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing task frequently. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to use computer, word processing and spreadsheet software, fax and copy machine.
