Responsible technical work involved with the enforcement of City of Pompano Beach Code of Ordinances. Conducts reactive (complaints) and proactive (self-initiated) field and waterway inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant parcels.

Enforces and reviews municipal, zoning, waterways, business tax, building laws and regulations. Prepares, organizes and maintains case files to present cases and testifies at quasi-judicial hearings. Researches information regarding policies, laws, regulations, business tax receipts, engineering, environmental, landscaping, permits and building and zoning requirements.

Researches ownership of various residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant properties within the City. Provides code compliance information to address client issues and educate concerned parties. Attends homeowner and civic association meetings.

Posts and mails hearing and violation notices. Compiles and prepares written reports on investigations, maintains all inspection results, prepares correspondence and notices of violations in a computerized case management environment. Identifies structures that may be unsafe and initiates the appropriate follow-up action.

May be required to flex their work schedule, work nights and weekends and holidays, as necessary to perform assigned responsibilities. Performs other duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent. Possess at least two (2) years of paid work experience dealing with the public in any of the following types of work: code enforcement, planning, building inspection or construction or other closely related fields; or Possess any one (1) F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Certification (Fundamentals of Code Enforcement; Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement; Legal Issues in Code Enforcement; or be able to become certified within one (1) year of employment.

A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license. Knowledge of computers, office equipment and practices.

Knowledge of investigative procedures and documentation. Knowledge of building construction. Knowledge of appropriate City codes and ordinances.

Knowledge of city services and municipal organizational structure as they relate to code enforcement. Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of code violation investigation and enforcement. Ability to work independently but also with other employees in Municipal Services.

Ability to supervise, motivate, evaluate, mentor, coach, and review employees engaged in the code enforcement Operation. Ability to compile inspection data and make reports relating to code enforcement activities. Ability to communicate with irate customers in a courteous manner.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with City officials and the general public. Ability to complete and maintain accurate records.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues and complaints from the public. Ability to effectively and accurately communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.

Ability to effectively use and operate various technological items such as a personal computer (PC), calculator, copier, and fax machine, etc. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing, and pulling. Occasional lifting of large sets of plans and specifications.

Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
