Penn State World Campus Student Affairs is seeking applicants for a half-time assistantship (tuition, plus stipend) with a two-semester appointment beginning August 2019 and ending in May 2020 with possible extension for the following academic year. The Co-curricular Programs Graduate Assistant will assist with the research, design, implementation and evaluation of educational and service-learning programs for World Campus students.

The position requires 20 hours a week which can include some nights and weekends. The Co-curricular Programs Graduate Assistant will play an integral role in the implementation of this fall's pilot program establishing themed learning communities for online undergraduate students. Each learning community or One Lion Squad, will follow a dedicated curriculum led by peer leaders.

The goal of the program and curriculum is to equip new World Campus students with confidence, resources, and knowledge to effectively navigate the university in both academic (e.g., course success) and non-academic ways (e.g., locating appropriate support services). The Co-Curricular Graduate Assistant will also assist in the development of other co-curricular learning opportunities for Penn State World Campus students.

This includes expanding the leadership development and service programs available to World Campus students. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will help support collaboration and co-sponsorship of co-curricular opportunities with academic partners.

The position will also interface with student members of the World Campus Student Advisory Board to collaborate, gain input and advance various co-curricular initiatives. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to conduct research and build rapport and relationships with students and academic partners, while having an affinity for technology. Candidates should possess an ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Graduate Assistants will be expected to hold regularly scheduled office hours and attend staff meetings and monthly unit meetings. Must be enrolled full time in a graduate program, preferably in Adult Education, College Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counselor Education or related field. Experience working with online learners and/or adult student population as well as strong communication and organizational skills are highly preferred.
